The bodyweight vs. lifting weights argument is ridiculous. Yes Apes is right in that learning to use your own weight is more important. Exercising with your own weight is hugely beneficial, and most people jump to weights too quickly.
But that doesn't discredit weightlifting in the slightest. It just means that bodyweight work is a precursor. If you can do 25+ push-ups in one set, you won't gain much from doing them anymore, and you should either do weighted push-ups or bench press (same basic exercise with some differences). Pull-ups will always be a big staple of a good routine too.
And yeah, squats are one of the best resistance exercises you can do - can't argue with that.
