    Why Women Are Still Single

Just thought I share.....I'm not sure how serious the person who sent it to me was but I thought it was funny

    1. The nice men are ugly...

    2. The handsome men are not nice...

    3. The handsome and nice men are Gay...

    4. The handsome, nice and heterosexual men are married...

    5. The men who are not so handsome, but are nice men, have no money...

    6. The men who are not so handsome, but are nice men
with money, think ladies are only after their money...

    7. The handsome men without money are after ladies money...

    8. The handsome men, who are not so nice and somewhat
heterosexual, don't think ladies are beautiful enough...

    9. The men who think ladies are beautiful, that are heterosexual, somewhat
nice and have money, are cowards...

    10. The men who are somewhat handsome, somewhat nice
and have some money, and thank God they are heterosexual, are shy and NEVER MAKE THE FIRST MOVE to ladies!!!!

    11. The men who never make the first move, automatically lose interest in women
when women dare to take the initiative...DUH!!!

I hope this was made in jest because that list saddled with troubling assumptions, not to mention the title of this thread.

LOL...I realize that it was a joke but I find that the gender order is most perniciously perpetuated in everyday, taken-for-granted language or dialogue. What's troubling about it to me is that it play upon conventional understandings about "men" and "women."

Not necessarily, especially given that some women act like "women" and men act like "men." But when that understanding of gender becomes the ONLY one, and the only legitimate one, then it becomes problematic.

Fair enough, but how does that relate back to the topic at hand?

What topic? The thread was made for laughs and I just made some observations about the language used in the list mr.rip posted up.

For the reasons I mentioned above: assumptions made about "women" and "men."
