    I never said anything about Common.

    And my inclusion of JLive in this discussion really having no relevant tie to whether or not I think he's gotten better or worse over time. I agree with you on that. I really enjoyed Practice off of Jazzy Jeff's joint Magnificent but not much other than that recently.

I feel the same way actually... but he has enough classic work to keep him in the upper echelon of MCs in hip hop history... and whenever, I want some soul food in hip hop, I go to him and Talib.

    If you guys are going to use that criterion, then every rapper was once underground... let's vote Jay Z or Nas then... lol.

    Shouldn't the rule be that they have to still be currently underground?

    I would define underground by sales and/or indie label... but there are some indie cats who I probably wouldn't even classify as underground anymore.
