I beg to differ. Lyrically? There are plenty of cats doin it.
I think Kanye used to have moments of lyrical brilliance but now not so much. As a pure lyricist I'd rank him pretty low maybe a round the latter half of the 50's but as an artist I'd argue he's top 5 maybe even number 1
Not even top 1000 and just under dog shit
ummm dog shit isn't a number.
Skipping past all the posts....
Prior to Yeezus I would say that lyrically he's underrated, simply because of the emotion he puts into his lyrics. Similar to Pac, he's not the most complex dude but he puts it out there in a way that's really dope. I think part of it is that he produces his own shit so he knows EVERYTHING about the emotions of the songs, the flow and feel, etc...
But if everything from now on is going to sound like Yeezus then totally disregard what I just said and only listen to College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation and MBDTF. If he keeps on pace with what he did with Yeezus I'll have no reason to try and defend him
lmao pac was complex as a lyricist though imo
I will rank him as a good producer, but lyrics and rapping skills?... I rather not say...
