I don't know if I'd say barbell or dumbell are superior or inferior to one another, they both have their pros and cons and I would never use one exclusively.
Decline would place lesser strain on the upper chest and shoulders, and put the main area of the chest in a somewhat weaker position. Personally I don't see the logic behind the lift, especially if you already do dips. To each his own I guess.
To me, dumbbell vs. barbell comes down to preference. I tend to use dumbbells for chest work and barbells for back work. Bent-over rows always feel better than single-arm rows for some reason.

My main chest exercises are barbell bench press and pec deck, when i'm not at the gym then push ups..wide.
