I've noticed that the stand-up of most fighters isn't quite up to par with the Muay Thai guys, with the exception of a few like Silva, Duane Ludwig, Davis, and Cung Le. For an example of why MMA needs to evolve in the striking game, watch Leben vs. Silva. Pin-point accuracy against wild swinging.

Duane Ludwig vs. Shad Smith. Guy tears him apart.

It seems to be changing though with the rise of Anderson and Chuck's recent loss to a better striker.

A question for Ben or anyone else: is grappling the best it can be in MMA?

Some guy are good at it like I mentioned, but some have a way to go.

BJ is also an example of a good striker, although I'd like to see him kick more.

Striking in mma is always going to be different from what you see in other areas. MMA fighters have to approach striking while taking their opponents takedowns and kicks into account for example. I also heard someone point out that the bobbing and weaving you see in boxing matches can make mma fighters open to knees and kicks that boxers don't have to deal with.

you cant criticize wild striking.... i mean chute boxe guys made a killing off looping wide hooks that come from outside the torso, something that most muay thai and kickboxing gurus will tell you is a fucking no no

anymore you better be well fucking rounded.... jacare is a world class bjj guy but has been KO'd 2x because although youre in trouble when he takes you down his chin is another story.... that and guys are learning tricks to avoid takedowns , so your game needs to be complete enough to fight standing, wear a guy down and take him down if you are a grappler specialist ... if you are a striker, you want to pick your opponent apart and render his takedowns useless then hope to accumulate punches to end the fight standing while avoiding shots and takedowns

anymore you better have 2-3 solid disciplines or you can forget making it very far in the sport
