Any instruments you feel need more emphases in todays music? I want to hear more horns in R&B and more creative basslines.

Listen to neo-soul... Bilal, Van Hunt, Erykah Badu, Corrine Bailey Rae, Maxwell, etc. all have horns, strings, and creative basslines... particularly Corrine.

The main neo-soul artist I like is Maxwell. Most neo-soul people are more R&B. I'am more of a funk person. In a way I wished there was a neo-Funk movement out there. People following Zapp,BT Express,James Bown etc. I guess much of the funk got channelled into west coast rap.

Here's an example of the type of funky stuff I like. Checkout the guitar. It's by a band called Ozone.

I hear you, where I must admit I prefer the names Ignorant dropped, I totally get your point - horns can bring that lil sumthin sumthin to a track that take it from being good to being great.
