It's decent. Not great, not bad. This thread makes me want to replay it more than the album itself does

There are afew tracks that have grown on me but thats down to the production, most of the album is pretty horrible though and jay gets outdone by singers on a number of tracks...

    okay...

    negative stuff first...

1st off, this album reminded me why I've never been the biggest Jay fan in the world... I honestly forgot. This dude doesn't switch up the content very often.... he spends so much time bragging about how hes right and everyone else is wrong...

plus dude is in the GOAT convo of course, but i always put him in the bottom of the convo cause I just dont like the way he raps.... so many akward pauses and "uhs"

but overall, I like the album... I loved the production for the most part as I usually do with Jay-z's albums, and theres a few tracks where Jay comes raw as fuck...

I actually DONT like Nas' verse and think that was the first time Jay actually killed him on a track.

I like the 1st track, oceans, heaven and verses the most.

without reading the comments i'll respond.

-this has to be his most commercial album ever. Wouldnt be so bad if the songs were on the level of "Big Pimpin" or "What More Can I Say" or something, but they're not.
-there are few standouts. at some point i almost stopped rating the songs b/c almost everything was getting a 3/5 from me (average)
-did not feel compelled to rewind once or listen to one song more than once. And I do this on pretty much every good song I hear.
-lyrics are terrible, he's saying nothing. I didn't hear one "quotable"
-continues to show his age by reminding us he doesn't tweet, use instagram, etc. Don't care.
-waits until the final verse of the album to give decent verse.
-Tom Ford might be the worst song here. 2/5
-The best songs, even though they also are far below Jay's best, are Part 2, Nickels and Dimes, and Jay-Z Blue. I might give the album another listen, but these are likely to be the only songs I listen to again after that.
-He needs to rap faster more often. He'd probably still sound uninspired, but maybe less lazy at least.

This album gets a 3/5, I'd rather listen to Kingdom Come.

If anything calls this album a classic they better be trolling.

    Yeezus >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Kanye > Jay-Z now, and if we're looking at albums, he actually probably has been since sometime in 2004.4

How the fuck was the commercial better than the album? How does that happen?

i forgot the one with Justin Timberlake is pretty good too, nice Bruno Mars impression from him.

Jay's albums 2004 to present: Kingdom Come, American Gagnster, Blueprint 3, Magna Carta
Kanye's albums 2004 to present: College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation, 808s, MBDTF, Yeezus

    CD > all of Jay's
    LR > all of Jay's
    MBDTF > all of Jay's
    Graduation > Magna Carta
    808s > Blueprint 3

Is it not obvious at this point?

Jay is not interested in making art or being innovative AT ALL.

    Just cashin out.

I'm not saying that, but just lookin at the last 10 years 2004-2013.

Also, 1 classic can only get you so far imo (yes I know he also had Blueprint, just saying)

For me, I think 2 excellent albums > 1 classic album and 1 mediocre album.

So even if RD ranks above all of Kanye's albums to me, that may not be enough.

i've read a few people in this thread refer to Kingdom Come as if it was the worst shit ever. i'm actually listening to that album right now. i mean, it's not Jay's best, but imo it's far from his worst album. Blueprint 3 has a firm hold on that title. shit had 2.5 good songs.

Kanye wests material is much better than jay zs for the last 10 years, its beyond debate. College dropout and late registration>all of jays last 5 or so albums combined.

Basically any good rapper who has released 2 or more albums in the last 10 years has a better recent catalogue than jay.

aight word yo....I have not peeped a song yet, so this is a chance for you to have heard an album before I have....even if you likely didn't peep it much....between your comments and mel comments, it seems as though it might be aight, cuz you two hate everything, but the respected opinions make me curious more so than usual....I'll drop an opinion after I peep it
