Pretty much everything Nas spat from '94-'96 was CLASSIC... and this song is no exception. "Try hard to die hard... chances of surviving the game is like trying to feed Allah lard." This song is street poetry, from the Street Fighter movie soundtrack, check it out:

Not you?... the biggest Nas stan... well, since ME... lol

After Illmatic dropped, I was snatching up everything with Nas' name attached to it.

The thing I like about this song, other than its vivid imagery, is how he murks himself on this song... not on some suicide shit like Biggie Smalls... but on some "I got caught slippin' and niggas got me" type shit... which is kinda rare in hip hop... most rappers like to brag about killin' every nigga in sight... but on this one, he was real and expressed a vulnerability:

    sippin' 80 proof, watchin' Juice..
    but hold up,
I see some brothers tryin' to roll up,
    wishin' I can fold up
It's hard to see the faces in they hoodies
    I better boogie
360 degrees, before they jig me...
    I'm out...

Yo I'm a cream fiend, with a mean dream
Brain full of schemes, my crew's rollin fresh out the greens
Give you what you never seen, the insom(nia) with Mac-10
It's 2:10 in the A.M. in the streets of Queens
    Try hard and die hard
Chances of survivin the game is like tryin to feed Allah lord
A walk a piece with a deadly shadow
They want to blow me with the double barrel, foul no sorrow
I brawl with Blanka, caught Bison in a thinker
Don't make hell your new home, with the blue chrome
Mistakes want me, sauve fellow but raunchy
The soul of a cold body haunts me, I flee the country
But only to shed tears for years
Too wild for my own self, hopin help is near
Street Fightin was cool but in school I brought a new tool
Toolin with the devil, a rebel, a fool

nas murked this lyrically in terms of rhyme schemes and rhyming

I used to think this was a 98/99 joint from all the unreleased gems he had from then cuz of how he sounded on it but then Ig tol me it was from around 94,,,makes sense now I hear the 'Aint Hard to Tell' flow but I was shocked still...Nas mudered everything in 92-94

Yeah, that movie dropped during the summer of '94, along with the soundtrack... it was only a few months after Illmatic was released... that soundtrack was also the first time I heard Ras Kass on that track "Come Widdit" with Ahmad and Saafir, who were bigger names at the time.
