    News this week
    from newest to oldest
    most information comes from rajahwwf.com & 1wrestling.com

    A) As you have probably read by now, WWE decided to release Roddy Piper after hearing the comments that he made about the company on HBO’s “Real Sports” segment on the deaths in professional wrestling.

Apparently, WWE was working Piper on a handshake deal, with no long term contract conditions. After hearing that Piper hated the man that he was in the ring and pretty much knocked WWE with his statements, WWE officials felt like there was no other alternative then to end their negotiations with him.

This does not come to a surprise to anyone backstage in WWE, as the company was furious with Piper after the segment aired on HBO. Piper was said to have kept to himself backstage and never really showed signs of enthusiasm for the business. In conclusion, Piper seems to have lost his passion for wrestling and his job with WWE along with it. I wish Roddy the best in all that he goes on to do.
    B) WWE SmackDown finished with a 3.4 rating, with a 6 share this week. I must remind you that SmackDown was pre-empted in Philadelphia.
    C) It appears that Raven will miss the Ring of Honor show this weekend, and it seems he will have the entire weekend off due to the injuries suffered on Wednesday’s TNA show.
    D) Readers have sent word that Diamond Dallas Page now has some local car dealership radio commercials running in the Detroit area. Kimberly is also featured in the commercial, but DDP does most of the talking, and of course he included a “BANG!” here and there throughout the pitch.
    E) Both Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle will be working through injuries this weekend on a couple WWE house shows. As of now the card indicates Lesnar and Angle will team up against The Big Show and John Cena.
    F) For those wondering about the latest rumors of Trish Stratus appearing in Playboy, the story is that there is no story to tell. According to Stratus, negotiations with Playboy have not taken place. So obviously she will not be appearing in the magazine anytime soon.
    G) For anyone who may have read about the rumor of Kurt Angle taking on Hidehiko Yoshida in a gold medalist vs. gold medalist match in Pride, the story is completely false. A news paper in Japan ran the story simply to boost sales.
    H) Here are the 10 best selling wrestling books according to Amazon.com’s ratings:
    1. Wrestlecrap: The Worst of Wrestling by R.D. Reynolds - overall ranking: 4,678
    2. Hardy Boyz by Matt & Jeff Hardy - overall ranking: 5,070
    3. Bobby the Brain by Bobby Heenan - overall ranking: 5,399
    4. In the Pit with Piper by Roddy Piper - overall ranking: 6,544
    5. J.R.'s Cookbook by Jim Ross - overall ranking: 6,946
    6. Foley is Good by Mick Foley - overall ranking: 7,746
    7. Classy Freddie Blassie by Fred Blassie - overall ranking: 9,028
    8. Sex, Lies and Headlocks by Shaun Assael - overall ranking: 11,023
    9. It's Good to be a King sometimes by Jerry Lawler - overall ranking: 13,587
    10. Pure Dynamite by Dynamite Kid - overall ranking: 15,388
    I) Former WWE and ECW wrestler Justin Credible was recently stripped of the PWF world title since Steve Corino no longer runs the company. The storyline view shows that Justin won the title at a non-PWF event so he is not the “true champion”, if you will.

    A) According to the Associate Press, Spike Lee will be looking at a $2.5 million bond to pay for Viacom’s losses if the network wins the lawsuit over the name “Spike TV”. The world renowned movie director originally posted a $500,000 bond, but the judge decided to raise the bond after Kevin Kay, TNN vice president, testified that the network has already lost millions due to the postponement of the name change. State Supreme Court Justice Walter Tolub gave Lee until today to post the additional $2 million. The Associate Press also states that the trial date has been set for August 18.
    B) The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that Joanie Laurer, better known as Chyna, and Sean “Syxx Pac” Waltmen were seen at the Buzz, a hot spot in River North. The two were apparently in the Chicago while Laurer was recording backup vocals for an artist by the name of Reggie Benjamin.
    C) Quick note, according to the Internet Movie Database, The Rock’s character in his new movie “The Rundown” will be named “Beck”. The movie in slated to be released later this year.
    D) Former ECW wrestler Steve Corino told RF Video that all felony charges related to his recent arrest have been dropped. However, he will still be going to court on misdemeanor charges of fraud and forgery that were pressed by his former girlfriend.
    E) Raven twisted his ankle last night after he executed a plancha and landed with his foot at an awkward angle. He began limping immediately after, which led some to think Raven was just doing a really good job selling his injury. However, he did actually injure the ankle and upon his arrival backstage his ankle was substantially swollen.
    F) There was said to be a lot of complaints among those involved in the main event for the NWA-TNA pay-per-view last night. It seems that there was some confusion over the way the match was suppose to finish and none of the four wrestlers in the match were happy to be working with each other. As aforementioned, Gilberti went into the match with a bad back so he was very limited as to what he could do in the ring. And Raven hurt his leg in the first minute of the match. Everything collaborated together left the wrestlers feeling very sour afterwards
    G) Lance Storm has updated his official commentary on his website, StormWrestling.com. In his latest, he gives an idea for a good house show card. He gives ideas on how many matches should take place and the order they should fall. Along side updating his commentary, he has updated questions on him comment board concerning the “boring” chants on RAW.
    H) WWE is now looking for someone to replace David Sahadi as a television producer. They have posted the opening on their Corporate section of their website. Hotjobs.com has WWE also looking for a play by play announcer with 1 to 3 years of experience.
    I) Kurt Angle did suffer a flare up of a hamstring injury that he sustained at WrestleMania, but he is fine and will work through it.
    J) The new team of Jackie Gayda and Rico will be on WWE.com’s official webcast, Byte This today at 4 pm Eastern Time. Join Dr. Tom Prichard and Josh Matthews live this afternoon and ask your questions.
    K) For those wondering who Billy Kidman was with at the SmackDown taping this Tuesday night, it was Missy Hyatt’s niece, Miss Michelle. She is a regular valet on the New York Independent scene and is a contestant in the WWE Diva Search. She will be working the USA Pro Wrestling event this Friday at the Elks Lodge in Queens, New York.
    L) MickFoley.com has re-opened to help promote his new book, Tietam Brown. The website features a statement from Foley as well as excerpts from the book, tour dates, a journal, and about the book. The website has been done by WWE and is under their copyrights.
    M) Rob Van Dam will be opening his own comic book store called RVD’s Five-Star Comics in the Lakewood Mall in Long Beach, CA. Van Dam has officially signed the lease for the store and said that it will be opening in the middle of next month.

    A) There have been claims that Low-Ki was backstage at last night’s SmackDown Taping. That is from an unconfirmed source, so take it for what it is worth.
    B) Mr. America T-Shirts are now available for sale at the Shopzone.WWE.com.
    C) Dave Penzer is now booking talent at inyourfacebookings.com. The talent lists includes Shane Douglas, Jimmy Hart, Bobby Heenan, Buff Bagwell, Jim Duggan, Vader, Rick Steiner, Konnan, Perry Saturn, Missy Hyatt, Sabu, Jimmy Snuka, Sandman, Road Warriors, Paul Orndorff and Terry Funk. In addition he is also working directly with NWA-TNA so through him you can book Jeff Jarrett, Raven, Ron Killings, Jerry Lynn, Chris Harris, James Storm, Kid Kash, A.J. Styles and Trinity.
    D) Reports indicate that Kurt Angle reaggravated his hamstring injury during the six-man tag match at last night’s SmackDown taping, the injury was originally suffered at WrestleMania. This would explain why Angle did not stick around for the post-match. The injury doesn’t seem to be serious at all, but knowing Angle, unless the injury is extremely serious, he's going to play it down anyway.
    E) The word going around the SmackDown locker room at the taping last night in New York City is that there has been a major transition in wrestler attitudes. Several wrestlers are said to be growing increasingly frustrated with how they are being used by management and are starting to complain about it openly.

Even the most general fan can tell which wrestlers on the SmackDown roster have been used in the wrong way as of late. Nevertheless, most of the complaints are directed to the writers and the agents and everyone is far too intimidated to go up to Vince McMahon and tell him their problems due to the fact they are scared that it will leave them jobless.

Most critics feel that Vince is spending all of his creative time on his storyline with Mr. America Hogan and Zach Gowen and is not paying attention to the rest of the product. Vince is also taking a heavy amount of criticism for the controversial storyline that he has given his daughter Stephanie.

Perhaps the worst thing to come out of this is the SmackDown locker room was considered to be the one that got along and the RAW roster is where everyone fought.
    F) Paul Heyman did not attend RAW nor SmackDown this week. Many had thought that since Heyman lives in the area that he would be in attendance due to the fact that he is looking to get back on the active roster. However, he was not there.
    G) Former WWE Hardcore Champion Pete Gas was sitting at ringside at Madison Square Garden last night during the SmackDown taping. Gas was there visiting friends before the show and posed for pictures with fans before the event began.
    H) Chuck Zito of Oz was backstage at SmackDown last night visiting people and was in attendance at RAW this past Monday at MSG as well.
    I) Kurt Angle’s return music and video was played last night prior to his ring entrance at the SmackDown taping.
    J) Roddy Piper’s appearance at Madison Square Garden last night was his first in the building for nearly nine years.
    K) Zach Gowen has handled himself well in the SmackDown locker room thus far. Gowen’s biggest fear is being labeled as an affirmative action or charity case, but that does not appear to be happening. If anything, Gowen has been trying too hard to get along with the other wrestlers in the SmackDown locker room.
    L) Along side being on the SmackDown roster, the Basham Brothers continue to work dates in Ohio Valley Wrestling.
    M) Billy Kidman, who is also doing work in OVW has cut his hair short. The decision to do this was made by Kidman himself and was not a management decision as it was with Test. For those wondering, Billy Kidman is still dating Torrie Wilson in real life.

    A) The latest word out of the SmackDown taping at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York that is in progress is that a fan was accidentally injured during a segment for this week’s SmackDown.

Vince McMahon was doing a segment with Zach Gowen by walking out to the ring with a cane. Vince threw the cane and accidentally struck a girl sitting in the front row. The girl was apparently hit fairly hard in the face.

Latest reports indicate McMahon rushed over to check on the girl after they went to break to see if she was alright. The girl was upset and crying and was escorted to the back with her boyfriend.

We will pass on more information when it becomes available. The taping results should be up either late tonight or earlier tomorrow morning right here at Rajah.

    B) HBO’s segment on the deaths in professional wrestling on their “Real Sports” with Bryant Gumble just aired. The segment was not as long as I would have liked to have seen but placed a rather large bit of the blame on Vince McMahon. Wrestlers who were involved with WWE that were interviewed for the piece included “The Patriot” Del Wilkes, Rowdy Roddy Piper, and Vince McMahon. The feature showed clips of wrestlers that have died at a young age. Names included Brian Pillman, Rick Rude, Davey Boy Smith, Curt Hennig, and others.

Del Wilkes revealed that during his peak in his battle with pain pills he was taking 100 pain killers a day. He said that he did it because everyone else was. Wilkes went on to say that if he were in the locker room with 10 people, at least 7 were taking drugs.

Piper made some of the most interesting comments. He revealed that he lived a life of drug and alcohol abuse for 20 years and sounded like he only returned to WWE because he is a 49 year old man that can not take out his pension until he is 65. Piper said that he doubted that he will even see 65. The most interesting thing that he said was that he does not watch himself on WWE television because he hates the man that he sees and knows what that man is capable of, referring to himself as that man.

Vince McMahon definitely looked rattled during the segment and even lost his temper in the interview by smacking the papers almost out of the hands of the gentleman that was interviewing him. McMahon asked him if he was supposed to be responsible for every wrestler who dies. He said that he will not assume responsibility for any of the deaths and if wrestlers can not handle it they should get out. McMahon said that he is the one that gives them the opportunity.

Bryant Gumble talked to the guy who interviewed McMahon and mocked him by saying that he would not smack his papers out of his hands. There was a statement read that quoted made by Vince McMahon saying that he saw no reason to do testing in the WWE locker room. They ended the segment by saying that the problem is on going, despite McMahon acting like it was just a problem of the 80s.

    C) Last night’s edition of RAW on TNN did a 3.9 cable rating, with a 6.3 share. That number is down 0.2 from last week’s 4.1 cable rating. The broadcast did hours of 3.5 and 4.3.

    WWE Weekend Ratings
    -Velocity on 6/21 did a 1.0 cable rating, with a 1.9 share.
    -Confidential on 6/21 did a 1.0 cable rating, with a 2.2 share.
    -Heat on 6/22 did a 1.0 cable rating, with a 2.0 share.
    D) Paul Heyman is working through a recent neck injury and is doing work for WWE as a consultant out of his house for both the RAW and SmackDown brands. Many hope that Heyman will return as an on-screen character sometime before the summer is out on the SmackDown roster. However, it is doubtful that he will return as the lead writer for SmackDown due to him and Vince McMahon clashing.
    E) WWE has been exempt from the New York Athletic Commission drug testing rules that are now being enforced on any independent group that works in the state of New York more than six times a year. The reason for WWE being exempt is that they are considered to be following the rules and due to their in-house testing of wrestlers and sending abusers to treatment or releasing them.
    F) For those who do not know, the wrestler now known as Garrison Cade wrestled as Lance Cade with Ohio Valley Wrestling (WWE’s developmental territory). The reason that WWE did not leave him Lance was because they already have a Lance in Lance Storm. Cade is considered to be talented with good mic skills.
    G) Chris Jericho has taken his “Highlight Reel” on the road, which is one of WWE’s attempt to help house show business. The feedback from the segment is overall pretty good as WWE is now marketing “Highlight Reel” t-shirts.
    H) Kurt Angle continues to get along well backstage. It has been said that Angle is doing great and is not even showing signs of being stiff or sore after matches after returning from his recent successful neck surgery. Nevertheless, people close to Angle say that he is not one to draw attention to himself or “sale” injuries backstage. The consensus in the SmackDown locker room is that Angle is an all around good guy and that he has made a wonderful recovery.
    I) WWE officials continue to praise Christian, as many have been extremely impressed with how well he continues to draw heat as a lead heel at RAW house shows.

    A) Word going around the RAW locker room is that La Resistance will be given the old Sheik-Volkoff gimmick of singing the French national anthem before their matches. There is a chance that they could debut it tonight on RAW.
    B) Hulk Hogan called into the Bubba The Love Sponge radio show this morning and said, "I have to perform at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday." Bubba replied by saying, "You mean Mr. America is performing on Tuesday?" Hogan ended with, “Yeah, okay.”
    C) Ultimo Dragon has been impressing WWE officials at recent house shows. They have been working him in four way watches with Matt Hardy, Rey Mysterio, and Jamie Noble and feel that he looks great.
    D) Nathan Jones was in his hometown of Orlando with the SmackDown crew for the house show last week. It appears as if there are mixed reports if the company will ever use him again. The buzz around backstage is that no one is sad to see him go and feel that he is “weird” and “creepy”. One wrestler went as far as saying, “He had no business being in our locker room.”
    E) Roddy Piper has been said to keep to himself backstage. Some sources say that he is the same in WWE now as he was in WCW a few years ago. He dresses by himself and does not want to be noticed by anyone.

    A) Goldberg is still not winning any popularity contests backstage as most of the wrestlers do not feel bad about his failure. Many argue that Goldberg’s ego is still out of control and he never goes out of his way to say hi or anything of that nature. Nevertheless, Goldberg was said to have not created a major scene backstage at Bad Blood despite being extremely upset with Linda McMahon’s comments about him.
    B) Only the RAW writers were backstage at Bad Blood last weekend. Apparently, some people felt with it being a PPV that both writing teams would be there. Brian Gewirtz, Michael Hayes, and Ed Koskie were the three writers from the RAW brand as well as Bruce Prichard and Pat Patterson who aren’t exclusive to either brand were there.
    C) With the split brand PPVs now underway, some argue that wrestlers from both rosters are growing further apart. Instead of getting to hang out once a month together, they will only have four times a year to hang out before and after PPVs.
    D) Vince McMahon continues to reject anyone’s idea of bringing back the WCW name because he does not see the need to use the name of a failed promotion.
    E) The story behind the recent firing of Jamal from WWE is that he had been on the bubble since the nightclub incident that saw him getting arrested after threatening a police officer who had tried to remove his wife from the club. The overall feeling back in the RAW locker room is that Jamal had a poor attitude and had the reputation of being cocky and didn’t do much to protect his opponents in the ring. His tag team partner, Rosey is said to be the exact opposite and therefore remains with WWE.
    F) Mick Foley has been said to be his normal self backstage, not acting any different when he was with WWE before.
    G) There is still interest in Tough Enough in at least on network, which is definitely a good sign. At one time, the show was considered a dead project. But it is looking as if it will get picked up after all.

    A) As you have probably heard, there are several rumors going around that Mick Foley will be making his wrestling return at SummerSlam. Some are even saying that he could take Goldberg’s spot in the main event match against Triple H. If this really does happen, this will be the second time that WWE has halted plans for Goldberg vs. Triple H.
    B) Rajah reported earlier here that Sable and her husband Marc Mero have separated because WWE officials offered her a job. WWE is certainly glad of this, because they feel that Mero has been the source of bad news that has been given to Sable throughout her career.
    C) SmackDown this past Thursday night on UPN drew a 3.2 final rating, which is down .5 from last week’s 3.7. It should be noted that the show was preempted in the Los Angeles market due to a Dodgers baseball game, although that does not explain the full decrease.
