    1) I was digging that tree concept if no one does that lets keep it for this week....or some other shapeshifting poem where you write about some kind of object of nature (ex: tree, ocean, or the sun and moon....a poets favorite tool to use but what if you were that object ya know?!?!?)

    2) a poem using nothing but words that start with the letter "F"

    3) Write about the evil of money

    4) Write a poem about babysitting the anti-christ

    5) Write about a close family member you admire

here's an idea, a long with a topic...we should list a voting system, cause people have different style in free verse and most often you have nothing to compare them with and you can't really judge a rhyming piece when the other piece is intentionally not meant to rhyme...like have something that the voters can look for and compare so they KNOW what they are voting for...you feel me?

I understand, but people have to access that for themselves Dajacle, I can't impose a rule that makes them consider non-rhyming styles

it basically has to be a self judgement call for everybody that votes, but anyway DaJackle, this isn't really a topic so I don't want to fill this up with this discussion

    *topical suggestions*

you're on your death bed and going to hell or heaven. choose where you are going and what it is like when you get there.

write about a boy/girl going through puberty, body is changing, being attracted to the opposite sex now and stuff like that

you're in jail. why are you there and what happens while you're there. explain this with some details

    Subject Title Topics:

    Ready to Die

The Day the World Went Crazy

I See the Truth in Your Eyes, While Mouth Always Lies

I like the idea of struggling with an addiction of some kind

I like the nature idea.. write I concept revolving around something like a tree, sun, moon.etc

something to do with capitalism, whether its supply and demand, greed motivated by profits, a superficial society.. whatever.. it has a lot of breathing room

something concerning death, you own or a loved one (or maybe someone you hate)

the anti love poem, (which can also be, the bitter love experience haha)

    a poem about getting old

a poem about the end of the world, be it yours, or the earth as a whole (preferably earth as a whole)

okay.. well thats about all I c an think of for now.

    okay more ideas..

    impact tv has on society

impact society has on small children

nostalgic memories.. Your youth so to speak.. how you remember it

impact of parents, or other authority figures on your personality.. how you treat people

you ideas of good and bad. is there such a thing?

why do you get out of bed in the morning?

what is more important to you in this life than anything else??

--I am trying to go with topics that have a lot of breathing room. This should give each poet a chance to expand in maybe different directions, and will make for a more interesting competition. I like the idea of each person having the chance to twist the topics at hand. If it is too specific it may get in the way of the creative process. These are just ideas, but this is my first tourny, so you MODs got a better idea of how it will all turn out.

    1) Write about growing up and learning new things

    2) Write as if you are a flower and winter is coming

    3)Write a Rhopalic verse

-a) A Rhopalic verse is composed of lines where the first word contains one syllable, followed by words each a syllable longer than the one before.

Here is an example by Lewis Turco:

    Come(1), lover(2), hastily(3), violently(4),
    And(1) gather(2) everything(3) gatherable(4).

4)Write a 4 line stanza, then a Haiku, 4 line stanza, Haiku... That is 16 lines... You can add another 4 lined stanza at the end or somewhere else.
