I'll just state my opinion and disregard how way off subject this thread has become.

I first heard of Macklemore sometime back in 2009-2010. He released a few mixtapes that picked up some buzz so I decided to catch some of his stuff on you tube. First video I seen was "we danced." I thought man this is some pretty funny shit, but seemed gimmicky. After some more tracks and finally hearing The VS. EP with Ryan Lewis and The Unplanned Mixtape I was able to really feel what he was saying in some of his songs. Macklemore on those two Ep's showed a split of extremes between very deep and conscience rap to almost full out parody rap.

Kind of a crazy mix. But I was feeling some songs on both sides of the spectrum

Is he hyped because he is white? Oh for sure. Is he lame because he's hyped? not at all. This guy can go toe to toe with his story telling, his realism, his outrageousness, emotion, life experience, intelligence and just overall ability.

I'm not sure this guy ever intended on being a commercial rapper, he just seems genuine and very liberal. He holds true to the liberal Seattle state of mind stereotype, anti-propaganda, anti-commercialism, anti big business, pro gay rights... ect. In a sense a modern hippy. And those messages stay consistent even in his first big commercial release.

He's far from a rap savior, but far from an artist that should be written off or only recognized for a top billboard release. He's for sure a talented dude.

Oh BTW I'm Irish, so I love the song "Irish celebration." My favorite song by him.
