As you recall, two weeks ago, 10 matches set a high water mark.
I hope none of you, fearing the tidal rise, bought an ark.
This past week had 31 members signed in with 15 matches expectant…
and we witness how hopes crash with a vengeance in the flash of a second
as 13 no-shows left us with eight matches and a decimated league.
Still, those who did show saturated each contest with great intrigue.
Yes, the league is, once again, weakened. It’s true.
But creating a league worth being in is all we Mods are seeking to do.
So, dear writers, voters, entire verse quoters, I’m speaking to you
as well as the league supporters and the one’s critiquing it too.
Spread the word, revival is nigh, the homing beacon’s in view.
Alright, my rhyme is wack. On with the week in review.

Obviously, the foremost match on everyone’s mind was the champ match. With Clawz entering the match with six consecutive title defenses, taking sole possession of second longest streak all time (Although, an argument can be made for me having 6 also but, that’s another debate), the question was: “Does he have what it takes to surpass TaLi?”. Facing a revitalized Dic, the challenge was going to be extreme. And to extend it past that would require defeating the winner of the Contender Match: Runna vs. Ribo. Not to mention Divisional matches with Got Life?, Lost Prophet, Jook & Urizen would yield a third formidable contender. Not the ideal time to consider such a feat.

Let’s begin with the “Undercard”, as I like to call it. With only 10 of 23 members bothering to post, 3 of the 4 matches that took place were “Alternate Matches.

There was one pussy, as Malosovich chose to avoid becoming an “Alternate” and take the No-Show Win. To top that off, he didn’t vote (How many consecutive weeks is that? Do we have a record for this?) so he left with 1 point.

Stairway didn’t actually request to no be an “Alternate” but he posted up a 16 bar equivalent of a “No-Show Verse”, talking about how he didn’t think his opponent was going to show. We could have tagged it onto another match and created a 3-way but he clearly wouldn’t have stood a chance and would have wasted voter’s time and energy so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Still, he didn’t vote either and perhaps deserves the loss?

As for matches that took place, there were some great matchups and pretty well balanced skill levels.

ExoticUsername is clearly no newbie. And I don’t say that just because he brought nothing new to the table. His writing style is average but being clear and easy to follow is a good attribute for a story teller. Just need to tell a new story.
Noib da Mutt put a bit of a spin on his inspection of a porno actor. It was moreso his writing skill that carried him to a unanimous decision.

Jimi Dungeon also would appear to be more experienced than his post count would indicate. His rhyme scheme is the standard even length couplets with end line multies. Simple and effective. He also came with well worn tales.
Vigil continued along his topical path and clearly showed that he put more thought and effort into his writing. However, that doesn’t always make for a better verse and Vigil was not flawless. Nonetheless, he won handily.

Trap returned to the league under his lesser known moniker of Young Jayo and showed that he hasn’t lost a step. His story had some holes and, being that it was only about 30 lines, could have been fleshed out more thoroughly but it was still a good read.
Pain returned with more of the same. While he didn’t strive to write anything unique or original, he perfectly nailed what he did go for. Also a good read, he narrowly edged Trap by one vote and there was some minor contention over that result.

TeKneeK hoped a crushing blow to Blackwell would finally put an end to his losing streak. For good measure, he also came with one of his best topical verses in recent memory. However, he found himself facing Nique, who is immeasurably better than Blackwell.
Nique also expected to face a weak opponent and she was unfamiliar with the new “Alternate” system so she dropped a subpar verse, in comparison to standards she’s set for herself. Still, a subpar Nique verse is better than most and it proved to be enough for the win in yet another match decided by one vote

Now then, onto the “Bracket Matches”

Urizen wrote an “Average for Urizen” verse. Not his best, not his worst. Perhaps not the best strategy to bring to a title match.
Jook also brought an “Average for Jook” verse. Not his best, not his worst. Of course, Jook’s average is clearly superior to Urizen’s average and the 8-0 shut out was the only outcome one would expect.

Shit people, I have to be up and I want this Mag out so, I apologize but I’ll have to do the last 3 another time. Hopefully very soon.

    Breakdown by Got Life?

    Vigil vs Jimmi Dungeon

Vigil had a very on and off verse this week where he exhibited a lot of his wit and creativity and really brought out an interesting spin on the sin city topic drawing conclusions between the topic and the war in Iraq. Some of the lines in this were quite clever, yet others seemed all over the place, this wasn’t his best by any means, but a cool drop none the less. Jimmi Dungeon’s drop was about as basic as they come. He told a very simplistic story about a drug deal gone wrong, yet he never really developed the characters or took the emotion of the ghetto and did anything with it.

    Nique vs TeKneeK

So this was a very close battle with Nique writing in metaphor about father earth and mother hip hop, yet at the same time she never really connected it in the greater scheme of things…Tek on the other hand brought forth a piece that he said he wrote inspired by Eminem’s “The Way I Am”…while I didn’t see those similarities he had a lot of imagery and powerful emotion displaying frustration in his character, which might relate to his recent frustration in the league.

    Pain vs Trap

Pain just wrote the same kind of shit he’s been writing for god knows how many weeks now…Trap went more along the story route and depicted a story rather well although it’s the kind of thing that was very predictable and we’ve all seen so many times before. Regardless of which both of you were on point in your respective categories.

    Noib vs ExoticUsername

So exotic wrote a story about a hooker who is nearly murdered, but then with the intervention of a cop she is saved and sees the light and amends her ways…while he had a decent approach the fundamentals and mechanics were still rough around the edges. Noib on the other hand wrote about a guy that does porn flicks, which most people seemed to confuse for a female porn star…nothing really spectacular from either writer.

    Jook vs Urizen

So Jook really took it to Urizen this week and ripped the unfortunate fellow severely. Jook wrote about a war vet who did everything he could for his country only to be fucked over by affirmative action, which in turn fueled his rage to become a racist murderer…Urizen wrote one of his better pieces to date, yet it still didn’t captivate me due to the poor mechanics exhibited in his writing. Honestly man it’s no longer acceptable to just key your shit…write it up and work it out…you won’t go anywhere if you don’t develop your writing.

    Lost Prophet vs Got Life?

Once again another slept on battle that really did not deserve to be slept on. LP wrote a very emotional topic depicting a lot of imagery, and while I approached the same topic I didn’t delve as deep into what could have been done with this topic, but that’s because I wrote it from my perspective watching my little brother as opposed to his perspective and his hardships. Much respect to LP and it should be interesting to see what we can cook up when we add Jook to the recipe and have our 3 way match next week.

    Runna vs Ribo

Runna continued doing his thing…you know that rhyme scheme everyone has formed a cult trying to manipulate, but truth be told there was nothing really captivating about this piece outside of that. Ribo on the other hand was absolutely all over the place and while he could have and probably should have won this match, he didn’t.

    Dic vs Anni

So Dic wrote some textbook Dic type shit…it was filled with imagery and all that sick twisted shit we’ve come to expect from him. Anni on the other hand had a rather comical approach to the vampire lust topic and I enjoyed reading his verse more, although at the same time it was evident that Dic took this.

We dismiss and pass them as amiss but their passion exists
you just happen to miss it when they're slashing their wrists
and the gash from the slit attracts the desperate to splash in
this is the fashioning of a suicidal nation the US looks to cash in
The undying fact that Iraq has symbolic importance is everlastin'
its a shadow less evil has beens choose to cast in to commit mass sins.
Their self-blasting old news cause this war's forecast is flawed
broadcasting the bullet that fast-blasts and overcasts abroad.

    4.Noib Da Mutt
I don't know who would like this type of a reenactment
In which a woman is forced to suck upon a man's dick
And the man is a tranny that's prettier than the girl
It's the most absurd thing you've ever heard in this world
My nerves start to curl because my performance is key
I notice my teeth rattle-my adam's ap.ple forcing out speech
My voice is too deep, my throat's cleared- I try it again
My life's relyin' on sin as I speak while cryin' within

    3.Ribonuclease
from the tears of my loved ones I could spare some salt to borrow
this is my life, so why gripe?
because for you it shouldn't be hard to swallow..
im just an average dude swimmin in an ocean of wars,
tryna cope with the norm with no coat while I soak in the storm.
with a sword on my side im a lord of the flies kid with hopes to perform,
even more to open a door to a time where my motion is formed

    2.Got Life?
I cant begin imagining walkin a mile in his shoes,
But the defeat in his voice is why I wear tattoos,
That show the brotherhood that he and I possessed,
& being that he doesnt recognize me I'm perplexed,
As I stick it out in hope that he recalls my face,
Hoping that he'd eventually let happiness replace,
The grimace of his pain that's way beyond my days,
& my brother envyin death has me in a manic craze,
So if you think you can walk in my shoes go ahead,
Watch your baby brother sit & pray that he'd be dead...

    1.Nique
But I'm elightened by verses, relating to tunes,
Every song is a page of my life with a playlist of moods,
    It's what's sacred to few--most phony fanatics,
Following the newest trend being only pragmatic,
But I've established myself--and few would bother,
Cause Hip Hop's conceived again--H.e.r newest daughter,
With the cruelest Father; Such a edgy planet,
Taking His anger out on us, it's so heavy handed,

    Top 5 Verses
    By Vigil

    5.Runna DaMille

This was one of my favorite verses this week, it's one of those pieces that you can read over and over again. The rhyme scheme, and flow like in all Riko's verses
was insane, and the content and vocab were both great. The verse was a little hard to follow at times and it didn't coincide with the topic but aside all that, the verse was a refreshing and entertaining read. It took great skill and effort
to write this verse, and this was definitely one of the best verses of the
    week. Props!

    4.J O O K

The content of this verse was hollowing, and Jook took a creative and
imaginative approach on the 'skinhead/kkk' topic. The backdrop of the story helped the reader to at least understand the hate in the character, and this just shows Jook is an unbias writer. The emotion in this piece was also good, the writing itself wasn't as impressive as Jook's previous verses but the content and emotion of this verse was above average. Keep Doin You Jook!

    3.Lost Prophet

This verse is a great example of the importance of execution and story
development. This verse progressed in a precise manner, LP didn't rush the story, he just told it, and he did so in an entertainig fashion. The scheme and flow also deserve praise, LP is one of those writers that doesn't need to force a rhyme, his verses come off way more natural than most verses in the league. And another thing I greatly admire is that LP's verse are smooth, his mechanics are good, not
the best in the league but he has shown tremendous skill, and this verse is no exception. Props LP!

    2.I Dunnno

This was by far the most descriptive verse of the week, lol, and that can be
a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it after you read the verse. This verse showed the creativity and imagination that D.I.C has, week in and week out he writes these crazy, entertainging verses, and they all have tight schemes. The flow in this was smooth as hell, and the content was good. Again, the description and depiction was way above average, D.I.C is without a doubt one of the most unique writers this league has. Sick shit D.I.C!

    1.Clawz

Now, many people had mix feelings about this verse, on one hand the voters
were entertained but then they said "But this wasn't serious"..lol, wtf?
Since when does the subject matter or the seriousness of a verse matter? I thought this verse's concept was fresh and most importantly, it worked. Clawz took a different approach and I'm glad he did cause I'm tired of reading the same type of verses, as I'm sure you are. The highlight of this verse was it's humour, the wordplay and witty lines were funny and it takes alot of creativity to write
a verse of this caliber. If you guys haven't read this verse yet, do so now,
you won't be let down, this verse is really entertaining and it's something different. Great shit Clawz!

    Voter of the Week

    by Clawz

Okay, so this was a tough week to select a VOTW, particularly because voting was rather unimpressive this week, with nobody going the extra mile to really separate themselves from the herd in terms of voting. Had any of the candidates this week gone an extra one or two measly votes (or a little more effort into those votes), they could have snatched the award. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. This is one of those weeks where I have to (sadly) resort to a points system to separate you. Similar to a few weeks ago, I judge each of your votes between 1 to 3, 3 being a perfect vote, 1 being the bare minimum, and 2 falling somewhere in between. 4's are for going beyond the call of duty and really making a huge, comprehensive vote, and 5's are for novel votes. The breakdown:

    Lost Prophet: 3,3,3,4,3 = 16
    Got Life?: 3,4,3,3 = 13
    Young Jayo :3,3,3,3 = 12
    Nique: 3,3,3,4 = 13
    Noib Da Mutt: 2,4,3,4 = 13
    Tekneek: 2,3,3,2,2,1 = 13

This is the kind of week where I like to select co-winners, unfortunately it's impossible to discern between the rest of the pack, so this week's Voter of the Week is Lost Prophet. He voted in more matches than almost anyone, but more importantly, his votes were comprehensive, well formatted, with intelligent and easy to understand breakdowns of both verses, providing valuable critique and making it hard to argue with his decisions. This is Lost Prophet's third VOTW award in five weeks, making him the league's top voter at present. Congratulate him when you see him. Props to everyone else mentioned, you also made solid contributions to the league, however if you want to earn the accolades, you're going to have to go the extra mile come voting time next week.

    Shit List by Got Life?

So this week had a bakers dozen of inbred retards who couldn’t be any uglier if they had down syndrome and were run over by a 747…but seriously this weeks list of morons is longer than the gangbang line at Tha_DQ’s hotel room.

Leading the pack of crippled hobbits are veteran cum guzzlers Jersey Emcee and Mr. Lead by example himself…Pent uP…carefully rubbing their individual IQ points together in order to spark a fire comes Lola and Rico who both continue to prove what doctors years ago prophesized…they are indeed wastes of sperm.

Of course lets not forget all those festering wastes of life who once again prove why absolutely no one in this league gives a flying fuck about random no names signing in. Congrats to the six of you that remain nameless because your names aren’t worth typing.

Of course not to be out done former wearers of the official dumb motherfucker cap Calibre, Kriminal, and Mets no-showed and didn’t vote continuing to be rebels of the league. Thanks for yet again proving that the only place you guys ever make an impact at is the shit list.

Without any surprise Malo continued to prove he doesn’t give to shits by not voting yet again…you and Pain are just such rebels I don’t even know what’s funnier…the fact that you guys shall not be advancing anywhere or the fact that for some strange fucking reason people still give you guys feedback.

Former league idiot Scrolls’ sister Stairway chose not to vote this week as well and didn’t really drop a verse either…she wasn’t placed in a match because the excuse for a verse she dropped was along the lines of a 6 year old…congrats on earning 1 point this week…I’m sure that as you continue earning 1 point each week you’re going to make a huge climb to the top of the league.

Jimmi Dungeon also joined the group and failed to vote, aside from that Vigil also found himself losing a point for not voting on only one match all weekend. Urizen surprised me this week, by not voting at all after voting on every match last week…whatever the case may be…this is a continuous effort, not a one time deal.

Now onto the dumb motherfuckers that dropped pure dog shit votes…

While Tek managed to vote on every battle this week his vote on Pain’s match with Trap was the kind of vote that makes people question Tek’s sexuality. Dropping some garbage like this should have merited that you didn’t even earn your full voting points because a vote like that was complete garbage. Tek also was apparently bobbing his head to Urizen’s verse as the eccentric writer apparently now is his own personalized beat making machine…the funniest thing about this whole vote was that he said I’m not down playing Urizen’s simplicity, yet what he liked most about Jook’s writing was his “more solid” content…Tek wasn’t alone in his sketchy explanation in that match as ExoticUsername also dropped a completely garbage vote…regardless of which it was obvious who won this and no one could really fuck that one up.

Honestly I don’t even want to get into the vote Tek made on the Runna vs Ribo match because truth be told…I think everyone who read that vote can agree that it made absolutely no fucking sense and all of us are dumber for reading it.

Truth be told I expected the shit list to be filled with more issues this week, but I’m not going to obsesses over every moron that no-showed and truth be told there were only 4 dumb fucking votes…Ironically 3 of them were cast by Tek…simply put all the other votes may have been a little strange to various competitors, but they were legitimate opinions and concise to a point.

So without further delay…congrats to Tek on now being a multiple time winner of the dumb motherfucker award. You really need to go back to basics man.

Since I did the Week In Review, there's not really anything left to say here so I've taken a snippet from an interview I gave at another site. R=RIKOSHAY

E: You're a viewed as an established vet throughout the net hip hop scene. how does it feel being dubbed as one of the best ever?

R: Pointless really. I believe online text is a standalone form of expression which should be appreciated for it's own merits. However, the fact remains that "texcees" are generally disregarded as a joke by the few people who actually even realize this medium exists. I wish the "text" genre as we know it had greater exposure and I believe it will some day, as computers continue towards the "multi-media center" that electronics manufactures are pushing them towards. Nonetheless, I've invested quite a bit of effort in my artistry and to say that maybe a few hundred people in the world know of me and my work is somewhat unfulfilling, lol

E: How has posting online helped you improve as a writer?

R: When I really started posting online (Mid 99) I was already using multies and wordplay and I had not encountered anyone online who I considered equal to me in skill. Then Myriadist started posting on RM in Dec 99. He was actually better than me and together we pushed eachother to improve exponentially attempting to outdo one another. Expecially in various cyphers where I'm trying to improve in a matter of minutes.
    uff was available.

E: compared to back in the day, do u think the net hip hop scene has grown since or declined(as far as raw talent goes)

R: Well, in 99-00, the average (95%) textcee sucked. No multies. No flow. By about 03, 50% of texcees at least had learned how to use multies and all other aspects had improved enough. but They all adopted the same couplet with end multies format. It's one homogenized mediocracy. With everyone being equal, yet believing themselves to be great, they all praise eachother as being great and few really realize what greatness can be.

Pent shut the fuck up...you're a waste of sperm...I have absolutely no understanding as to how a mod can be such a fucking useless piece of garbage that seemingly doesn't do anything for the league...don't no-show and vote on your matches and I won't write about you...or just don't sign back in...

Props to Riko for getting this up, but yea, this was prolly the least enjoyable mag i've read since i've been in the league, and that's partially on me as well...p.s. Riko week in review is more of a who won kinda deal, not what they wrote...
