    The RWZ Cypher Battle league

An idea was brought to me by a few posters for a faster paced battle league. Nothing against the RBL, but I decide to make a thread gauging the responses of other posters on this issue. This thread is to ask questions or make suggestions for this league. If it turns out no one likes it, cool. We’ll scrap it and think of something else. The following is what we have so far. Feel free to add things or ask questions.

    A) It would be a 3 round format
    - 1 round battle
    - 1 round Open Mic
    - 1 round Topical
16-48 bars per round. MCs match/agree on bar length.

    Suggestions?

    B) 10 categories to judge battles.
    - Flow
    - Word play/Name play
    - Rhyme scheme
    - Punches
    - Personals
    - Humor
    - Vocabulary
    - Flips (in 2 round battles)
    - Creativity
    - Structure (legibility)

All 10 categories will not be needed for votes to be valid, but we would prefer the list be copy/pasted for your vote with the poster’s names filled in for each category you think they won. 11 categories may be needed in case there is a tie. The voters may also write an explanation under each category explaining their vote.

    Suggestions?

C).Anybody on RM can vote as long as they use the 10 category copy and paste vote guideline. Votes may be challenged if the poster is suspect. Mods will handle the process and reserve the right to overrule a poster’s challenge.

    Suggestions?

D).RWZ will run for 8 weeks.
    - 2 week free for all
    - 2 week Quarterfinals
    - 2 week Semifinals
    - 2 week Championship rounds

    Suggestions?

    Please post your thoughts.

Should be no problem if the opponent is cool and no mod objects. But uh...are you thinking of rebutting a TOPICAL? Never seen that before.Rebutting battle verses are ill and need to be done. But hell I guess you could rebut both the topical AND battle if you're creative before.

If we gotta? We'll simply run it as an informal get-down.Any tournie's success is due to the willingness of the participants.Clearly political concerns about the success of RWZ threatening RBL and RSTL and a few other factors fueled the hatorade that lead to killing the RWZ as an officially sanctioned tournie.Fine.In fact? That's all the MORE reason to do the RWZ...because the RWZ is a GREAT idea. We'll do other stuff too as we continue to experience success...but most importantly? We'll develope full fire real true dope azz lyricists battling in the full scope of lyricism because that's what we WANT to do and that's what any lyricist worth a damn would really want.Spit cha bars in a real throwdown spanning every kind of challenge that a true lyricist can actually engage in and see what you can really do.It's beyond topicals, beyond merely battling; it's a war.And in a war? You need a deep and varied arsenal, superior battle plans, untouchable versatility, relentless firepower, ushakeable focus blazin dope punches, and irreproachable skillz.

So RWZ should work here because it won't draw traffic from RBL or RSTL because it's MORE than these tournies are. That's like saying that the Decathlon will draw competitors from the 10 events that it encompasses. No it won't.The RSTL and RBL heads are specialists; they're doing what they do best and oftentimes they're doing the ONLY thing that they're good at.In the RWZ? You gotta be good at everything and because of that? We won't be siphoning off anybody.Instead,we'll developing alotta peeps including ourselves. So we should be aight in THE ONSLAUGHT.Nobody uses it,nobody worries about it essentially. We'll do fine here. We'll start off small and slowly grow and change the game by uppin the actual skillz of lyricists on RM in the process.

Sounds groovy. Would we be giving a score out of 5 for each category for an overall score /50? Just seems like a 1 or 0 for a category will lead to many ties.

For those with acute A.D.D.---We think and hope RWZ'll work here because we're gonna do it anyway wherever we post on RM.It's not a "formal" league so RSTL and RBL have nothing to be terrified about, plus the RWZ attracts the more powerful versatile lyricist whereas the RSTL and the RBL mainly attract specialists in topicals and battles respectively. So there's room for each of us,just like there's room for the miler (RSTL) the sprinter (RBL) and the best of them all,the DECATHLETE (RWZ).

Nope even easier.Just copy n paste the 12 category voting guideline and put the name of the lyricist who won each category. Then drop a quick explanation at the end.Remember that on RWZ votes can be challenged on the basis of definition,so we give clear definitions on each categoy so nobody can cheat d/r hate or have truly ignorant (as in they don't know any better) votes. So if somebody says you didn't have wordplay and you did,and not only do you have the definition of wordplay but you have the bars to back it up? Nobody can say you didn't have wordplay. What they CAN say is that your wordplay sucked or wasn't as good as the other person's wordplay. Then they compare and contrast wordplay between each lyricist and give their preference as to who had better wordplay and why.Usually that's the end of it but a lyricist CAN take the matter to a mod,but at a risk: if the lyricist taking it to the mod is right? The lyricist reverses the vote against him/her/them so now it's for the lyricist(s) in question.Failure and you have TWO VOTES AGAINST YOU.The reason we have this rule is to eliminate frivolous challenges; you really really really gotta have a strong case to petition to REVERSE a vote because votes in the RWZ have to follow more stringent rules so they're more fair from out the gate.

I'll put back up the category definitions soon as I'm able to get back online, when the city is finished upgrading our grid.Maybe 2morrow.
