He's right, but its overly scathing. You can't expect him to produce something MMLP level...well really..ever again. From the moment it dropped he could never do anything that lived up to it. He delivered a classic at the height of his popularity that pushed all the right buttons to propel him into superstardom. I feel like MMLP2 is more him paying homage to the first album.
In fact, if you take out Encore (when he was addicted to benzos) and Relapse (when he was first coming back after getting off of benzos) his catologue looks pretty solid and shows a lot of growth. Every great artist has their masterpiece, MMLP2 to me felt like a worthy successor at this point in his career. Surpsied the shit out of me anyway.
eh I can see the author's point, of course
but the author also said em has lost his ability to "float over a beat"
what is that even supposed to mean? his flow is meaner than it ever was, by a large margin I would say...so that kinda killed the author's cred to me
Relaspe was lowkey his best flow...I feel he lost his ability attimes to flow also.he shows climpses but seems like he's trying to hard rather the it coming naturall like it used to
^^ em could never flow like that now. He'd probably scream-rap that verse.
ems flow might be more technically advanced than it was but it used to be a lot more smooth and relaxed. It's choppy and screamy now.
I thought EM was nasty on this track..
Haven't heard the whole album yet tho
eh we may have to agree to disagree cuz I think em could do that flow in his sleep at this point
I think his flows on the new album are way more difficult to nail and find it hard to believe he couldn't just slow it down and take some emphasis off and cut the voice changes down and smooth it all out with the mixing...I think that's just boring to him
also the production and mixing adds to his "choppy" flow although I wouldn't call it choppy since I would reserve that term for mc's who have trouble staying on beat but I know what you mean
a lot of it is preference at the end of the day tho and atleast we are all happy he proved he has something in the tank
If he's capable of that I wish he would do it then. I guess I prefer the previously flow because it almost seemed like he was just talking to the audience. Like the words were just coming out and happened to rhyme crazily. I think his new flow is a little try hard tbh. It seemed so effortless before.
But im nitpicking. MMLP2>
it's a legitimate point your making
I like that he varies his delivery on this but it's still mostly a high-octane flow...would be cool if he had a real smooth relaxed flow on some songs without them being like singing or pop songs or whatever
legacy might come close I don't really remember but that one was pretty smooth I think
relapse was better then recovery.. his new flows not fooling me
i honestly thought relapse was awful
like encore bad
i can only play like 2 songs off of that today. deja vu and underground
i personally thought recovery was awful i cant even remember liking one song off of it
I liked Relapse lyrically, and the floww as dope on every track. The high pitch voice was annoying.
Recovery he switched his delivery, lowered the voice with less screaming, and had pretty decent lyrics. MMLP 1 is hands down his best album. I don't see him making something of that magnitude ever again. But this new shit was not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
"Stay Wide Awake"
Whole Album is a gem.
^ you listen to "rap god?"
Or that Straight from the Lab mixtape
"We As Americans" - I love that song.
"Can I Bitch"
All dope tracks.
Can't forget Infinite, though.
But .. Verse 2 of Stay Wide Awake.. That shit is insane, man.
I did. I thought it was pretty good. I wouldn't say his best, but verse 2 had that old Eminem feel, like he subconsciously remembered his old flow. But I enjoyed the album from what I've heard so far. Only been a couple songs, though.
Stay Wide Awake is underrated as shit
Relaspe as a whole is underrated, the flow on bagpipes from bagdad, hello was ill, same song and dance, 3am, deja vu, beautiful, stay wide awake, even my mom was kinda funny
cant get past the accent tbh
no idea why he insisted on rapping an entire album in some hybrid middle eastern accent
Separate names with a comma.
