IMO its Alicia Keys for both categories for females.

Its harder for guys, right now I'm gonna say J. Holiday puts out the best music and Ne-yo is the best artist.

I'll probably change my mind after a few replies though.

and seeing how this is the R&B Haven and the majority of Justin Timberlakes music is not, he's disqualified from the conversation.

I think this distinction came into sharp focus again for me this week watching those contestants bumble through Michael Jackson songs on American Idol. He made great music/recordings, but the songs themselves are not necessarily the kind of timeless classics that other people will be performing for decades to come.

That said, I think Van Hunt is my favorite of the current crop of artists, but I'd say Robin Thicke among those currently employed by someone willing to release their music. The writing on his last album was a great leap forward.
    A. Keys and John Legend are both very solid as well.

As for just recordings, I don't know, maybe Rihanna (assuming she's considered R&B). Her current album has dropped 8 hit singles, including 3 #1s, 5 hit the Billboard top 10.

Brian McKnight's always been one of my favorites, or Maxwell. But neither have been out with something newer lately.

& Alicia Keys hands down as far as female. She's always been my favorite...I don't care what anybody says.

That sentence is hilarious, not because I disagree, even though I do, but the way it was put is funny and real as hell. I thought that last Robin Thicke cd was throughly disappointing. I'm going with Trey Songz or John Legend. As far as females, there's only two of them that I can listen to, and one of them went all kinds of crazy, so I gotta go with Alicia Keys by default

I agree with Alicia Keys for female and artists period.

    Gotta go JT for males.

Corrine Bailey Rae showed so much promise. I don't know if she ever comes out with something else.

With the whole thing of her husband being murdered, I can for some reason see that happening.

Probs Alicia Keys and Brian McKnight. B Knight might not have had an album in a lil bit but I think he's got a new one coming soon and it will reaffirm his hotness. I promise.

Brian McKnight's career is over children.

He's on the new Celebrity Apprentice.

    R.I.P. to his career
