"My place has been a cave since she left me .." - Slug

With no life, and few friends ..
    .. I find myself at a loose-end,
Suffocated by sheer silence; The work I produce stems ..
.. from this feeling of isolation.
    Im pacing the floorboards ..
.. in search of inspiration, yet contained to these four walls.
Trapped, with no place to hide.
Caught, in a wave of emotion -

    Tryna swim against the tide.

"Not waving, but drowning" in the depths of despair,
Trying to forget what we shared.

    DaMn.

Why do I do this to myself?
    Why?
Do I do this to myself?

Here now stands a man betrayed by love
Attempting to piece together the shards of his broken heart.
The emptiness only places empthasis on how cold
and un-inviting this room has become.
In silent silouette, he stares intensely
at an old photograph upheld by the bedside table
before carefully running a fore-finger over the
oak framework, disturbing the settled dust.
    Though no words are said,
    His tears speak volumes.
As they begin their serpentine descent,
A long winded self-evaluation races through his mind.

Why do I do this to myself?
    Why?
Do I do this to myself?

    wow this was great,
    very complete
    the title drew me in,
cuz ive always been kind of similar
    a loner and very quiet...
whos always had very few friends and really way to shy to make any...
i remember you from the rstl,
you are definitely a talented writer...

    Thanks for the responses.

Basically .. the concept I tried for was this guy was a hermit, trapped inside a 'room' .. that 'room' being his ex's heart. Not sure how it came across, but thats what I was aiming for.

    Glad you liked.
