Lets face it, whether you like it or not theres a ton of off topic shit going on here. Too much lately.

I believe that off topic threads are absolutely essential to keeping this forum entertaining and bringing you guys back here, it creates a good sense of community instead of a bunch of assholes arguing over passwurdz vs hollow.

However, it can only go to a certain point. Soon, the forum will just become mayhem, a complete shithole of trolls and ot topics made just to make fun of other regular members, isolating every single poster who is not on here 8 hours a day.

Case in point, the Audio Emcee Hookups section. There was a point in time where the GRB was ran through there (big audio tourney for big $$$) and tons of artists posted there to connect with each other, dudes like Ness, Laws, Soleternity and others were real active in there.

These day some of the old posters are still in there but its completely unmoderated and pretty much THE off topic forum of rapmusic.com...anything goes in there. people getting exposed, adresses posted, all that bullshit...the shits barely about promoting your own music, let alone discussing rap music in general. before recently, it was the most popular section on the site, although 90% of the posts were the same 20 people with 20k+ posts on here going back and forth. that being said, while it is vastly entertaining it has zero intellegent discussion about ANYTHING.

Im not letting this happen with the battles section. right now weve grown from one of the most deserted sections on this site, pre wrc, to the largest subforum on rapmusic, and thats

    we have 2 options

    1. Create a subforum for any and all off topic threads.
This would essentially completely ruin all the fun for most of you suckaz. ANY and ALL off topic threads would go here and you would no longer be able to receive the attention you crave from your favorite internet celebrities.

    2. Limit the amount of off topic discussions and trolling

This is more or less how it currently is, although it would also require the regular users to understand this and actively ignore trolling attempts and horrible threads. Repeated trolling and bumping lame threads about jack shit with 'lmao' just cause the dude who made it is your 'forum buddy' wont be tolerated. if i see 10+ threads all occupied by the same people talking the same shit theyll be warned and/or banned

something has to change, because if things keep going in the same direction within a year this section could be a nuclear fallout zone

i left a third option for your own ideas

As much as Im against Subforums (Generally because most of them tend to die regardless), Rapmusic will always have an enormous amount of traffic. People will create topics in both forums and everybody is going to post in both. I support the idea of a Subforum.

Also. May I add this to my Sig?

I personally say the section.. yeah there will still be troll responses and off topic posts.. but the threads will not be here and it'll overall cleanup the forum.

Ok ok, nice to see some honest replies. One last warning, if anyone derails (judgekure!!) this thread or any shit like that i wont tolerate it...this is to help the forum...

my biggest problem with the subforum idea is that when that happens i would probably HAVE to make this one 100% battling, no BS, because otherwise its unfair if someone posts some OT shit and it doesnt get moved there...

Maybe OT shit can only be started by people who have battled before?

My favorite part was when you said "I'm not letting that happen with the battles section" ... that was authoritative Maple.

Balance is necessary. You can't overdo moderation though. People will use the forum to talk about what they want to talk about, it's difficult to control that and it's one of the things that makes a message board what it is.

The last little while has been a weird period because there's been so much hype about battles with the lead up to MOB and now the wait period on videos that people are spending more time on the boards than they regularly would looking for information about battling. And since they're here they might as well talk about some shit, like porn stars and what not I suppose.

It'll die down once more of the MOB videos come out and the hype slows a bit, people can start coming on the boards every once in a while to check for battles instead of just chilling on here waiting. At least I hope.

so? we did fine when it was like that. a subforum is the best of both worlds. the trolls can stay, and the old school heads can recliam their forum

No. That wouldnt make sense and wouldnt be fair.

Keep this forum strickly about Battle Videos. Any off topic shit can be said else where in the other forum.

what I think is posts shouldn't be the target of moderation, only threads. you can moderate posts, but you still can't cut out all OT or loose chat in the normal BVA forum.. that's how conversation strives, is if numerous subjects are hit, not just one.

Just keep the OT threads in the OT section and the entire BVA will be much more enjoyable. (yes, I think battlers/related people should be allowed to make whatever threads they want)

I think we all know what a battle related topic is. it isn't a callout to other forum members, it isn't spamming your twitter or website, and it isn't forming little cliques. while thats all good and well, it can be done on a subforum

Hmm...I'm iffy about letting dudes who battled before post anything they want. Just cause D-Lor battles shouldnt mean he gets to post about his camera being lost in the BVA.....

Again...Thats just my opinion...It's a toss up really.

i don't think the subforum would work. people are incredibly set in their ways and also incredibly lazy on the internet to even just click a different board. (if it does happen tho i may be spectacularly proven wrong haha so not saying anything definitive - maybe it would work)

i'd prefer just stricter moderation - i think a problem now is the general attitude, if people got thru their heads that they should just talk their shit elsewhere instead of treating the forum like a chatroom of sorts then it would be a lot better.

real talk on what u said bout 'forum buddies'. not got anything against enjoying talking to someone online but people need to get it through their heads that this is a specific board, dedicated to battling. like i said they can do they shit elsewhere.

just my opinion tho not hating on anyone. props to maple on taking action tho, i think a lot of posters will respect you for that - you could have easily jus sat back and done fuck all.

No I understand how rare the occasion is. It can go either/or

On a side note, Erik Foreman mentioned that it shouldnt be the Posts that are Moderated, just the threads themselves...I co-sign that idea So long as the posts themselves dont get out of hand, Obviously.
