Little Brother, Tech, Last Emperor, Crooked, Royce.

Come on Nu, if you don't acknowledge the fact that the rappers from the 90 you listed released most and their best work in the 2000's then you CRAZY! Because it's not about in which year these rappers was born or released their first freestyle but in which time do their work (what actually counts) belong too.

Because that's your whole argument, y'know?. You saying that the 90's had better music than the 2000's, and it doesn't work if you're listing rappers that barely released shit in the 90's.

I mean Eminem has three classic albums according to hip hop heads, and only one of them is from the 90's. So...

Look, I ain't even hating on the 90's or anything, I loved them, but I have to speak up if somebody is going to act like 90's is unanimously the best decade.

Anytime pre high speed internet is the best period for albums...the internet killed the art of the album, now we just get playlists for a featured artist

Music is music, these niggas still tripping on the experience.

That's why we call you nostalgic, because you don't even miss the music, you miss recording shit on your casette tape from the radio, you miss being 17... psht.

You can't possibly think "albums" are made the same as they were back then, there is no way you actually believe that. It's not nostalgia, it's about the process of making a cohesive album...that is not needed in today's market so it's not approached the same way

This video is a must watch if you're chilled out and receptive to some of the science... the reminiscence bump topic is especially interesting.

Nostalgia makes you feel good when you remember things you enjoyed in the past, it doesn't make you enjoy things that you otherwise wouldn't or actually change the past. People don't feel nostalgia for bad memories, bad things, and bad times.

Also, Kry is on point about the art of album making... been saying that for years. Single serving music... get that ringtone money, get that 99 cent money, get that youtube ad revenue, get that internet radio streaming rights money etc etc

I'd say around 2007 or 2008, things were already on the decline where you just don't get to see an album with 1 producer or 1 camp of producers, and no real cohesive mixdown... but you can see it's not just artist choice in music making style, it's the desperation of record labels to demand that every song on the album be a guaranteed radio single that can play on any station, any time of day, in any work environment and feature only big name pop features. Desperate because internet music and savvy consumers eroded their business. It's a gift and a curse, because labels are bullshit slave drivers, vampires and media strongarms, but an hour long masterpiece is something to behold.

really? i first heard crooked on a luniz song then a kurupt "step up" released in '99.

last emperor i fucked up with, always thought he was an old school rapper, but he's just old.

this argument can go both ways, nas released his best work in the 90's, others after 2000.

that's not what this thread is about though, i already said that.

so you pick one rapper (eminem) from that list and base your argument on that?

    c'mon now.

the rappers to come out in the 90's > the rappers to come out after 2000.

that's what the thread is about, and i stand by it.

    royce is there, royce nickle.

forgot scarface and ugk and outkast, didn't have wayne game or drizzy in my playlist.
