shit is just getting crazy... whether you think Life is Good is one of his best albums or not, you gotta agree that its raw and adds another dope album to Nas' resume.

for me, Nas' only bad albums were Nastradamus, half of I AM, and Streets Desciple... and ALL of those albums have some dope ass songs on them.

so whos really fuckin with Nas right now? and I mean rap history.

whos put out more dope shit?

illmatic, IWW, Stillmatic, The Lost Tapes, God Son, HIp HOp Is Dead, Untitled, Distant Relatives (group album but its my favorite Nas project so i gotta list it), Life Is Good

bottom line: Nas is the greatest of all time

Nas is easily one of the greatest. This album just solidifies his spot as one of the top 4 GOATs (2pac, Biggie, Em, Nas). Those four will never change for me and I think he's forced everyone now to have him constantly in the argument of top 5, cuz if you're not puttin him atleast in your top five you're fuckin crazy.

But back to the original question:

Lyrically no one's been as consistent. It's him and Em lyrically.

Without focusing completely on lyrics I'd say Kanye is up there.

Nas, Em and Kanye. Throw in Lupe as well

dream, we may not agree on Kanye or Lupe... but we agree on Nas.

I remember a few years ago when you said that Nas was the greatest of all time, I kinda raised a brow, because as an older cat, I can still be stuck on that "Ra/Kris/Kane holy trinity"... hell, even The Source still is when they named Rakim #1 lyricist of all time and Nas #2... but when I saw that article, I actually felt Nas got shafted.

Nas is better than Rakim... better than Kane... better than KRS.

As a lyricist, I think he's undisputed... but you enter a different dimension when you talk about ARTISTS... which is why I think there is leeway for cats like Jay Z, Andre3000, Pac, etc.

But Nas would still be in that category because he's still rippin' shit... I think there's a case to be made for him being the best rapper out right now... and he never really had an extended period of fallin' off like say an LL or a Cube... so it's rare that an old vet like him would STILL be not only relevant, but BETTER than these young students he's schooled... just when you think they've caught up, he raises the bar again... and again.

Although Jay may be more popular, is he really better?

Jay has the gift of charisma and hitmaking, which is undenied, but truth be told, I would say his catalogue has MORE inconsistencies than Nas'. I think his beat selection has been just as inconsistent, if not, more inconsistent than Nas'.

Nas is the GOAT... no question.

Royce and Styles P have no classic albums... Royce has ONE great one... and Styles P has a few great ones, but nothing that impacted the genre.

I know there's "favorite"... and then there is the "best."

    best > favorite... every time.

    G. Rap is a dope rapper, but he doesn't have a lot of classic material... really since past '91... come on, let's be real... and I love G. Rap. As a lyricist, he's probably top ten... but as an artist, he's a little lower than that.
