there was no reason to change rapmusic.com at all. whoevers idea it was is deffinately kicking themself, pretty much all the traffic they used to get is over at you kno where now.. not sure what the reasoning was to completely rehaul the site and remove a bunch of features people have grown accustomed to for the last 10+ years or however long rapmusic has been around, but it is unfortunate to see what unfolded..im just puzzled more then anything. was there ever an official reason for why they felt this change was necessary? i was hoping they would change their mind and call it a failed experiment and revert it back but at this point with all the traffic over there it seems like its lost anyway, even if they did revert not sure if people would come back.

There were some positive changes to come to it. In my opinion the ignore list alone is worth it. I feel that there are mixed feelings on the rep. I believe there were some big reasons for the change, I can't quite remember them but I believe there's more than meets the eye and there may be a legit reason or two for a seemingly inopportune and inconvenient forum change.

The change was because the old rapmusic.com ran on VBulletin 3.8 with countless unsuported and abandoned plugins. The codebase was 6 years old and a tangled mess that caused sever performance issues and made simple fixes and features impossible due to the time it would take to dig into the mess. Something like an a proper ignore list would have never happened on the old RM. Notice how fast search and site performance is now on RM? You cant just keep slapping coats of paint on things and not worry about what is going on inside.

Many of the missing feature are being added back. There are still issues being worked on. RM will continue to be improved.

I wrote more about this here: http://rapmusic.com/threads/possibly-the-real-reason-for-the-forum-change.1356745/#post-1070417825

Fair enough, and although i don't have much knowledge in hosting websites, i do know that you would of retained alot more traffic if you just kept the origianal layout and dealt with the problematic scenerios of adding new features to that format. Protip : no new features or anything worth drastically changing was needed.

I'm still modding the F out of this site. I signed up in the year 2000, its not like I'm going to completely stop fucking with it. But people hit the nail on the head, the positive vibes over there are what's driving the popularity right now. It's pretty posi. And being posi is rad sometimes.

i responded in the thread you linked. but will post here too incase people dont go read that thread.

this forum is built by the same lead developers who built vbulletin and uses pretty much the same core code as the 3.8 software. they left vbulletin because they didnt like the new 4.xx system as it was a complete re-write and wanted to keep the same coding as the 3.xx. further proof of this is that xenforo were sued by the owners of the vbulletin software and settled out of court after numerous motions were denied by xenforo to have the suit thrown out.
so to say vbulletin is garbage is basically saying this forum is garbage too as it is based off the exact same coding as the old forum software you had installed. you could also have updated just the 3.8 series and not have to have gone to 4.xx or 5.xx now. they are still releasing 3.8 fixes, last one was 3.8.7 patch level 3 and there is a 3.8.8 beta 1 currently in testing.

and all of most of the features on the old software, even if it didnt have current support, were stable enough to not need updates. and there are still 3.xx add ons being built daily that are supported and if you know a bit of coding, you can even get some 4.xx features to work. i know because i visit vbulletin.org daily

so im not really buying that explanation.

So that'll cost $300 bucks". Im like "shut the fuck up and don't accidentally delete my porn u herb!"
