Here is a chart, to show mics flavors, or feel.
Props to Dan Richards for this.
Granted, this does not show ALL mics, but this is a good start, so if you know what type of feel you want, you wont need to try the mic first, just use this chart
alot of people wont know how to read this chart... but they can learn if they apply thier brain.
nice chart yo...
Bottom left are dark and transparent, bottom right, dark and colored mic, if the mics are twords the middle then look to what it says near the line its on.
Top left is brignt and transparent, top right is bright and colored.
Uppin for those who havent seen.
what does "color "and "transparent" distinguish?
transparent is gonna give you what you put in...
color simply means it has its own sound...
"the nuemann u87 is a balanced mic...but has a trademark 'nuemann' sound"
^^and computer stick mics have that famous "computer stick mic" sound
Transparent is basically what you hear is what you get, no gimmicks, no flavor.
Color is any number of things which distorts the vocals in a way that changes how they sound in orig form.
Good Post doggy...
*kisses his AT4033 and rubs his MXL990*
for deep voice copp the AKG 414 TL2 that shit is damn good better then the blueberry and u87 and shit
In that case my best bet is the Neumann TLM103 or Studio Projects B1
I got the Studio TB1
This is a good chart but don't get it twisted with the right knowledge you can get almost any sound out of any mic. IMO. The best reason to do all of this is to save time. IMO.
Les, we're not talking a good sound, we're talking the mic flavor.
See with the right pre and converters, you can get most any mic to sound good, some to sound great, some to sound amazing.
The mic flavor/feel, whatever you'd like to call it, just describes the overall feel the mic gives your vocals, and if you use a dark mic for example, doesn't mean you can't get good quality, just means it will have a darker feel is all.
i wish my KSM was on here, id put it in the dark and color quarter though
i want a TLM 103 and a 4050
I didn't say good..I am talking about flavor as well.
i love using the earthworks mics..... you hear the REAL sound so well through them
Uppin for those whop haven't seen.
Separate names with a comma.
