This album had everything you need in a good hip hop album. It had club cuts, posse tracks, radio joints, street records, dark personal joints... My only problem is that Asap can be a bit shallow at times, but what do you expect from a 21 year old street kid from Harlem? This was to me an almost perfect album. It had style, vivid imagery, wild flows, flawless production and just felt authentic. Best mainstream album of the year hands down.

It was nice, yeah. People forget about it because it was released on January so it feels like a 2012 record.

There's nothing to "get". You either like it or you don't.

It was cool... but I wouldn't say it was album of the year... and I don't think that an album has to reach every demographic or sector of commercialism in order to be determined a "good" album... the mainstream doesn't set the rules for hip hop... y'all let Puffy change the rules and that's not how it was supposed to be... every album is not supposed to follow Life After Death in order to be legitimate...

The only two albums I'd say are close would be Ghostface Killah & Adrian Younge - 12 Reasons To Die and Talib Kweli - Prisoner of Conscious. GFK's album was classic Wu material.

And Talib's 5th album was really good too.

Those 2 and A$AP would be top 3 Mainstream this year to me. Leagues ahead of Jay-Z, Kanye West, or Eminem's albums.

As well as honorable mentions for 2 mixtapes I'd consider to round out the top 5 Mainstream releases.

Chance The Rapper - Acid Rap

Quality isn't the only criteria I would use to define what would be album of the year. Its too subjective. Everybody got their opinions and different tastes in music. To me, album of the year should have a significant impact on ALL hip hop listeners.

to me it is does record sales or popularity doesn't determined what i cop as far as the music goes im no conforming to anybody else's standards but mine with that said the quality of the music determines what i buy or download.

with that said this thread is a joke imo this album is no where near the album of the year imo

Those are some hella crazy standards you got there bruh. Hip-Hop albums with that kind of impact come out every 5-10 years let alone every year.

Is it THE hip-hop album of the year? I wouldn't think so. But if there is a list of best albums, I definitely think it belongs on it.
