Who are you to judge that someones life is less important than yours?
What makes you think your life is more valuable than dogs life?
You want to kill insects because they look ugly to you, what the fuck is wrong with you?
Then people say they are not superficial.

well if i saved the human, it wasnt because i thought the humans life is worth more. My wole life ive always seen "life" as equal. Life means being alive to me. Living.

life doesnt mean having mad math skills and hands with thumbs.

and in your scenario youre being forced to pick 1 of 2. SOmeone has to die in your scenario. Its a tragic one. What if they were two humans? and you can only save 1?
what if payback i was holding your baby in one hand over a cliff, and your wife in the other. You can only save 1. WHO DO YOU SAVE? you can only pick 1.... or say your mom and dad? or your best friend and your pastor? youd weigh in your head who is more important to you. Youd essentially be forced to face your compassion levels and youd learn a lot about yourself. Either way 1 has to die, the decision would probably haunt us forever. But it wasnt your fault, you could only save 1... and if you did nothing 2 would have died.

the who is irrelevant in that case beyond it being a personal matter. And in the case of the human/dog scenario you laid out, depending on how it plays out, i think its possible to get in trouble with the law for saving the dog over the human. Even if there wasnt i think its something that would cross some peoples minds and influence the decision. Also there is no right or wrong answer beyond law and personal preference. Law and personal preference are the deciding factors for most people i think. If you look at them both as 2 lives. The tradedy is 1 has to die. The beautiful thing is 1 gets to live. Beyond that is overthinking it i think. Which is what humans do. Overthink everything because of how our brains work. Ego comes into play and a miriad of other things.....

on a serious note i actually do think human life is worth more than a dog's life. the best justification i can give is that i value the potential of a human being worth more than that of a dog, and that of a dog being worth more than an insect, which is worth more than bacteria, etc.

to take the 'all life is equal' approach to its logical conclusion is to equate using hand sanitizer with genocide.

Why is human life worth more?
You only say that because you are human, thats the only reason.

even if that's true, so what? people only really care about protecting life because we are alive and thus we project human qualities onto other forms of life in an act of misdirected empathy.

but i don't think that's all there is to it. i value the life of a rat more than an insect because i guess i equate intelligence with overall value.

    So what?
That just shows there is no logic in your way of thinking.

maybe i'm not being clear enough.

obviously if you think you'll be punished for killing things after you die, then you must already believe killing things is wrong. otherwise there's no reason to think you'll be punished. so you can't use the fear of retribution as the reason for thinking it's wrong.
