Check out Kanye's 'Runaway' for creativity. He's one of the best to ever do it. Premo is more 'pure' rap, and his style is unique as hell, BUT he only really has that one sound.

And he does that trick very well.

Versatility in and of itself is not a virtue.

Master ONE craft first... and then try conquering other styles... a lot of people don't understand that.

Kanye is mediocre in the pop realm.

well ig he is good in the classical producer sense, when it comes to pop.....his music sounds sonically far better than it used to, he is an amazing arranger, lots of the beats are bland though......he creates a sonic visual better maybe

Saying that Kanye is mediocre is pure hate. He brought the game to a whole new level musically.

With that being said, he's no dj premier. Kanye is a lazy producer, but his shit sounds really, REALLY good. But I respect premier more because of his craft.

I like his old style better... "rawness" is a part of hip hop.

Why do you think "hair metal/pop metal" of the '80s was hated on so vehemently by metal/hard rock enthusiasts?

Because it was too slick, too commercialized... not raw enough.

Grunge in the '90s became the appropriate response.

I think his pop sound is mediocre... he's made some amazing music, though... but I don't like watered down rap music.

I don't think versatility is important at all if you're a true artist.

Picasso painted in the same style... was his merits as an artist ever questioned?

Martin Scorsese is another one who owns a niche... in fact, he inspired a whole school of filmmaking.

But you're right... if you're gonna be versatile, at least have ONE style mastered first... so many entertainers are "jacks/jills of all trades," but they're mediocre in all of those trades.

picaso went through several period/phases that were different looks......****vinci did all the science and art etc......very diverse as a mind and contributor......but diversity is important especially if one can figure out their style and how to be diverse in it

picasso had like 7 different periods where he went wit completely different styles

if you only doing the same thing over and over it's gon be real hard to make yourself great off that

DJ Premier don't do the same thing over and over, he do switch it up and shit, that's why he one of the greatest. but he don't got the same versatility that Kanye has, he always got that "premo sound" in there

word @ pete rock, that old school smooth jazz shit
