Man, does this quote gain more resonance each year or what. I heard this quote a long time ago and didnt think much of it. As time passes it seems like the key to success is not just relying on yourself and utilizing your own talents and skills, but branching off and making connections with others.

Anyways, agree or disagree with the quote? (Based on personal experiences)

Shit's real true, especially in this internet age with mass friend-making and the ease to contact people. More shitty people are getting exposure due to the people that they know, not necessarily their skill.

I got connects in nyc that I used to go to college with to hook me up with shows and get exposure. I don't really consider myself that great with my music, but based on who I know I have an outlet to excel at this shit.

As someone working in the field of education and trying to crack into the most competitive school board in the country, I can say it's about 20% skill and 80% networking.

    It is what it is.

Yeah, sometimes its kind of laughable in a twisted way. I recently got a pretty good part time job, where I imagine at least 70 percent of the candidates were far more qualified. However, I had a friend who had worked there.... so I ended up getting based on his recommendation.

Completely fucking accurate. Outside of academics I haven't achieved anything on my own and have made most of my headway through contacts and nepotism/cronyism. It's a beautiful thing, tbh.

Although, in art and music that's a given. It's how everything is done. It's a lot more relevant if you're trying to get work or a career.

    One word: internships.

Get as many as possible before you graduate.
