if were talking popularity and respect, then jay-z wins... if we're talking overall music wise, its Nas and has been Nas for several years now.

It's crazy, I actually think if Eminem actually cared and had some inspiration in his life, he could be the King again. Dude was KILLING it from 2000-2002.

I ain't denying the dude could rap circles around most dudes. Talent alone does not an artist make.

In music, however, "King" isn't a title you keep until you die. As has been the tendency for many a rapper we once called hip-hop royalty, they've moved on to become jesters in the court of public opinion.

Eminem needs to retire before he destroys the balance of his discography. he hasnt had a really good album in over a decade. I respect him for coming halfway decent on Recovery, but that album was also the first time in his career where he wasn't a superior lyricist.

and we all know about relapse and encore. both had some gems song wise but were all around dissapointing album wise.

very true. Which is sad, because he's so talented. And Encore started off so damn good too. Some people don't remember that. When it got into the Ass Like That, Big Weenie songs...it went to shit.

There is no "King" right now. IMO, the last rapper to have that true "King" status was Fif back in 2003.

I'd love for Andre to stop hiding and just create albums to put rap in another plateau.

Jay been king since 98...dude has adapted with Hiphop and remained highly relevant for almost 20 years now. At 40+ he dropped a #1 album and adapted to these young cats style. He's still selling out stadiums, not arenas, STADIUMS. I just saw Jay rock Fenway Park like he was in his prime. Nobody left in the game can compare resumes with Jigga. Jay Z is the king of Hiphop until he feels like giving it up, bottom line.

I'd disagree. He's not involved in the rap game often enough anymore to be a major contender CURRENTLY.

    Welcome to the site though.
