very true, diamond d is not getting enough mention either among others like dj quik, e-swift, havoc, erick sermon, organize noize, etc.

exactly never thought he did just mentioning thats one of the things i heard, yeah read large pro has at the very least helped out with a bulk of pete rock beats

i never said "nas is like" wasnt "hot" ... i just said it wasn't one of the best beats of all time... i can name 20 preemo beats off the dome that are better than "nas is like."

with that being said... i think preemo is in the top 10 when it comes to the best of all time, but i can name at least 6 producers that i have above him.

madlib
jay dilla
rza
9th wonder
erick sermon
pete rock

I love 9th, but you can't put him on a GOAT top 5. He has one classic record. Preem has like 10.

Premier was my main reason for getting into beatmaking as well, but now I'd say Dilla surpassed him on several levels both technically and artistically.
A lot of people don't agree, but Premo's beat have not sounded the same since that thing happened with D&D Studios. I don't remember if it was sold or what, but it definitely sounds like he has been working on different and less good equipment since around '03. I'd say Ownerz was the last project that came out, where Premo's beats still had the crazy umph going. Ever since they've sounded kinda flat to me.

All those guys are way underrated, for sure.

Dilla did make "Do For Love" by Tupac but never got credit. I guess the guy who made it chopped up this song

and made it into this

Thanks to Wikipedia I just found out how they got the beat. lol

I heard Dilla had a lot of beats jacked from him, especially since he released tons of beat CDs. I've heard people that knew him say he just wanted to get his music out to people and what happened to it after that, he would usually shrug off.

Actually, Preem bought D&D after it closed down and renamed it HeadQCourterz after a friend of his that died that year. I think there was a period between maybe '02 to like '04 when he was really hit or miss and a lot of people started to really think he fell off but almost all the beats he's done in the last few years have been fire imo.

My top 10 producers in order:
1) Dj Premier (by a loong way..I mean c'mon, he's NEVER made a bad beat!)
2) Pete Rock
3) DJ Spinna
4) 9th Wonder
5) The Beatnuts
6) DJ Muggs
7) Kutmasta Kurt
8) Alchemist
9) J Dilla
10) Eazy Mo Bee

Stoupe's mad sick, I just find his style a bit repetitive. Joey Chavez makes some ill beats as well.

Good to hear Pete Rock being mentioned too.

Its so close between Dilla and Premo. Cant decide on who is better.

Here is more proof of Dilla's greatness:

YouTube - Recreating J Dillas "Players" sample

There are some good up and coming producers like Statik Selektah, Khrysis, Kno, and Damu The Fudgemunk. Be on the lookout....

Don't sleep on Hi-Tek either. Havent heard him mentioned.

Dilla and Primo for me. Never heard a bad beat from either. Dilla grows on you MUCH more.
no love for dre or just blaze huh

id say

dilla, primo, dre, timbo, and pete rock in no order as my top 5

its honestly scary how consistent primo is.
i love this shit
