He just retired today... and some analyst said that he might be the greatest ever to play, "pound for pound." Like when you consider his size and how he was still able to dominate in the NBA... I kinda agree... I've always felt that Iverson was the best basketball player of his generation... all this talk about Kobe or T-Mac, but not enough about AI... he was arguably the best player in the league from '97-'01, even when you include Shaq and Jordan.

I know most of you are gonna hate, but any thoughts from dudes with real high basketball IQ?

    Negative.

    Iverson is a crackhead.

He played well four years and now he's the best P4P.

    Uhhhhhhh NO.

He's easily top ten in my era but I think Jordan and tmac were better sgs. I hated to see him fall off in Detroit.

Nah. Iverson was usually top 5 in scoring, steals, and assists. Neither Jordan and Tmac were really never top in anything but scoring

Iverson is my favorite player of all-time.

But nah man. One of the greatest. But not THEE greatest.

I hate to bring it back to such a trivial aspect, but the guy has no rings. I can't call someone the greatest until they win a championship. And I know, it's a team sport. Doesn't matter. Dan Marino can never be the greatest quarterback either.

    Just don't work that way.

I thought '01 was his best season, when he took his team to the Finals and won Game 1 practically by himself... he also won MVP that year and MVP of the All Star Game... and his rookie year of '97 was the best I've ever seen... his problem was that he was too selfish and didn't really make his teammates better... but you can't deny his skills.

I coulda swore Jordan was top 5 in more than one category when he was playing.

Probably just my mind readjusting history to compensate for his greatness.

Jordan was a top 5 defender

and i'd imagine he was top 5 in assists or rebs at some point

    but anyway

yall need to understand there is a difference between "the greatest" and the "greatest pound for pound"

Jordan, Bird, Magic, Kobe, Bron etc are all better than Iverson imo

    but pound for pound

there is def an argument to be made

Idk. 01 and 05 are debatalble. I just remember him in 05 averaging a double-double in the playoffs with like 33 and 10 assists after averaging like 31 and 8 all season. And like 2 steals a game

Exactly... the only reason I would even put Kobe above AI is because his resume is phatter... AI burned out bad and quick.

But in their primes, AI was killin' Kobe all day long.

No. His best assist season he was still only 8th in the league. That was also his best rebounding season and he wasn't even top 20 He actually was top i5 n steals multiple times but still that's two cats

    regardless

i just showed he topped AI's best assist and steal seasons

and obv was a better rebounder

    and defender

    lol

yall got me arguing against my own opinion

    bottom line

AI milked the most talent and production from the smallest package

    no homo
