Interesting view on the origins of this acting white thing.
Just to clarify this is about how integration affected the thinking of many black kids as it relates to how they started viewing academic achievment. It's not about whether or not integration or desegregation in general was a good or bad thing. I'am all for desegregation. But did integration of schools come with some negative side effects?
maybe it did, but its not integrations fault.
There are a lot of variables that caused this but I don't think desegregation is one of them.
What's Driving Dropout Rate For Black, Latino Men? : NPR
"And, today, we want to point out a story that has both in the area of education. A new report from the Schott Foundation for Public Education says that only 58 percent of Latino male ninth graders graduate high school in four years. Only 52 percent of black males graduate in that length of time and that's compared to 78 percent of white non-Latino ninth graders."
You have to put most of the blame on the schools, parents, and children themselves. No parent who really cares is going to let their kid dropout. Dropout rates for Blacks and Latinos have significantly dropped over the past 20 years which is a good sign though.
the Only way to truly "act white" is to go back to this.
Which drives the inspiration from this....I get it.
