If you TIVO a show, does it count towards the show's ratings?

    Yes. They can tell if you tivo or DVR it too. I remember reading some statistic about how almost half of all reality shows are tivo'd / digitally recorded.

    well it's not like the cable/satellite companies are in every house monitoring what everyone is watching. there is a sample of a certain number of households across the country that report their viewing through various methods [people meters, individual journals, etc] and then those numbers are generalized to the population. so when it's reported that a show had an estimated 3.1 million viewers, it's based on the sample, not every single person. nielsen is having to update their methods now with digital recording and households having more than 1 tv, which the now outdated methods they use do not compensate for
