Ive learned to take this board with a grain of salt, i dont really look at this board seriously anymore but like you said if you are doing all of that at home, then do what you want.

But when you get in the game, you won't, you will have to go to a studio with real monitors, not B5s, real pro tools, no LE, and that studio will have a mac. Now, if you want to be just a beatmaker and give the cat the wavs, thats on you. You not gon get that far. But if you wan't to be a producer you really need to know how to work everything that is considered the industry standard. That includes pro tools and apple computers.

    But yall do ya thing.

i fucking hate protools, and i hate working with protools.

but with that said, i think if your serious about being a producer, engineer, or something like that in the music industry, you should at the least familiarize yourself with the tools of the industry, and pt is certainly the industry's choice DAW. PT is definitely a program that should be learned.

and macs are definitely part of the pro audio culture, and its probably because pc's and mainly windows was a piece of shit up until xp really. i custom build audio pc's so you'll never be able to convince me that macs are better. maybe you can make the argument about the operating systems, mac os definitely makes alot of things simpler as far as getting reliable stable preformance, but if you know what your doing on xp, i would make the case for xp being better.

plus, anybody that work his way through a pt session on xp can do the same on a mac...the vast majority of the key commands are the same, its just the mac uses the command key or whatever its called ...same shit though. a couple of sessions on a mac for a xp user had he'll be just as efficient.

u cant do shit with a mac mini really. not powerful enough if u plan on mixing shit and use alot of plugins etc

if u have a more powerful mac however, tehy are great becuz u can chain them and use it for individual processing power. like u can be mixing on ur g5, and send all ur reverbs to use ur mac minis processing power etc, i think u can hook up like up to 6 or some shit

gotta protools question...do any of you guys rocking m-powered and recording vocals (especially R&B) ever feel limited by the audio track limitation? i know it can get at most 48 with that production toolkit, just curious because I'm going to start getting into recording song concepts on my setup with song-writers.

First off, what the fuck does that have to do with anything?

Second of all, im pretty sure he owns one being that he would have to deal with pro tools like everyone else.

Third of all, WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING??

He just needs more ram. The cat that changed my mind about PT and Mac has a mac book, not sure if its the pro, but it has 2 gigs of ram and i have seen him run PT, Reason, Miroslav, and some other VST all at once. The shit never skipped.

From what I can see, it seems like the most critical component for PT is ram speed and ram quantity, then maybe HD speed, but I could be wrong.
