I just got a Mac last month and I'm trying to make upgrades from this haggard old PC.. so what I'm looking for are recommendations for the following things:

    1. Lighting / Photoshop etc. type program - I don't really need to cut things out of pictures and or do any crazy shit like logos etc.. I just want something that'll allow me to make pictures look cooler and cleaner.. Vikto would understand what I mean, I asked him about it not too long ago.. I want the best program, but if it's going to take forever to learn, and there's a less acclaimed but more simple / equally effective program, I'll tinker with both

    2. Song editing program - I've been recording personal demos of songs on an anicent version of Cool Edit Pro for a while now.. and although it serves it's intended purpose, the one thing that drives me fucking insane, is I can't precisely overlap layers and have it be accurate.. like if I want to paste an acapella over an instrumental that weren't recorded together.. Yes, this is kind of embarrassing

    3. beat making program.. I'm not trying to be Just Blaze or anything, but I would like to make just some simple, strange little loops or something just to have something cool to remake later on.. never physically made my own beats before

    4. internet browser, and why

    5. movie editing program.. something that gives me at least rudimentary control over image, that I can use to add like subtitles and paste audio over etc etc

Thank you, thank you, thank you, in advance

try adobe lightroom for editing pics, its not hard to learn, unless you know photoshop, then stick with that...
we use final cut pro for movies, and after effects for animation at work
i use firefox cuz google stores all of your browsing history unless you have it configured to not, and even still, the google empire scares me a bit... plus firefox has some really great plug-ins for anon surfing & greasemonkey is dope for using java to customize your web

    1. Bridge. Photoshop is nice to have as well.

    2. Should have Garageband on your Mac, but Cubase for both 2 & 3. Get a vst like Battery for setting up your drumset and get a keyboard midi, shouldn't be expensive.

    4. Chrome. Easy and user friendly, install adblock.

    5. Final Cut X Pro

i dont see how someone would use final cut with photoshop and after effects. why not just use the whole adobe line?

    i got after effects, premiere & photoshop - 1 & 5

firefox & safari (but hardly use it)

    dont need 2 or 3

yea ive had final cut for years. but now i just have the whole cs6 collection. its so much easier to go from program to program cuz everything works with the file format.

imo theyre the same, they just look different.

To me, FCP has certain features that make the process go more quickly... for what I do anyway... I make 4-5 videos a day at work & need to get them done in 1-2 hours tops... for example... i have yet to figure out how to make a motion template in Premiere I can apply to multiple pictures that automatically sets key frames at the start & end of the pics so all I have to do is adjust the size & position in the preview, but even if I could figure that out in Premiere, still prob wouldn't be comparable considering there are just multiple extra steps for everything in Premiere that only take 1-2 steps in FCP

just imo... would significantly decrease my employees productivity @ this point to use Premiere
