The person getting repped should know who it's from privately, the rest of the members shouldn't be able to see it.

I disagree, I prefer transparency in the process. Lest we need some troll with multiple accounts to keep upping themselves in a pathetic attempt to think they are more popular. At least without negs they couldn't take someone else down in the process.

I also find it easier to rep a negative post about someone than to say something negative about the person, so it might be beneficial if someone sees what people rep a post telling them to stop posting. If the post is repped by someone that poster actually likes, they might realize "hey, someone I like just liked a post telling me to stop posting, maybe I am a jerk after all"

Not likely but one can dream.

I'm ambivalent towards it. What I don't like is I feel like I'm forced to use the rep system now and.... I don't even get to personalize it.

That's true, I think you should be able to send messages and explain why you like/dislike their post.

Well, I never said I'd personalize with why I like a post. I liked being able to send little messages to some people once in a while. It was like candygrams on St. Valentine's day in middle school. It was just nice.

I just meant that's another potential reason to bring back the messaging. I actually liked rep messaging as a form of PM'ing better than the PM system itself. Definitely better than the current PM system.

Zyclon, it's really not the same thing and if you don't get it... well, that's unfortunate.

Yes. I liked to be able to message with the reps as before.

I guess it doesn't really matter that other members can see who repped someones post or how many.

I also prefer the current private messaging over the previous one. Call me crazy.

same thing just takes 10 seconds longer to message instead of rep. and now we're not limited on reps. better system.

if the message you're sending is related to a specific post, like it normally is with rep, sending a PM is more time-consuming and awkward since you'll have to explain what you're referring to.

PMs also seem to have more weight than a rep message, like getting a handwritten letter instead of a text message.

i don't mind the new system though, but i can see why it would be missed.

I don't care either way, some prefer their repping to be anonymous is all.

I don't actually mind that it's public, just that people are a lot less likely to rep so as not to hurt twamp's feelings.

I liked the private rep messages though. That should be brought back. It'd be nice if everyone could just be honest with themselves(and others as a result), to just say what they wanted to say without having to do it privately behind some poor schmuck's/kanga's back, but alas.
