I can only do 20 push ups max.......is that a serious problem?

    I started doing push ups/working out from 12-13 years of age.

    I stopped for a while. My peak was like 22 push ups.

    I got pretty good arms, it has the curvy shape and the muscle looking like a fresh round oval-shape and all that.

    I'm 18 now, and no matter what, I can only push up to 20 average...my arms get really tired and weak and I give out after like 20-23.

    I had friends when I was younger who could even pull 30-40 without a sweat, and they're kinda skinny (but lean).

    Is there a serious problems with my arms?

    I doubt it. You're just not developed. Do push ups every other night, you'll increase the amount you can do.

    dont worry..im 185 lbs now and i can only do like 30 max

    skinny mofos can do much more because they dont have to push as much weight..

    Plus if you HAVE to do them in order to advance your career (like me), then you get used to doing more. LOL I know a bunch of guys who weigh around 175 or so who can do at least 50-60 pushups before crashing. I know for a fact (because I saw it myself) that I know a guy who weighs 165 and has done well over 100 pushups nonstop (in our allotted 2-minute time limit). My skinny ass is only 125, so how many I can do is really not relevant. LOL

    oh man I can do a shit load of push-ups.


    30 max is TERRIBLE.

    20 max is just pathetic.



    I've never tested myself to see how many max I can do... but I can do 50 at the drop of a hat without breaking a sweat.

    at a relatively good pace, I did 56 in one minute just after sitting on my ass for couple hours.


    no idea what that means. i timed it on a watch tho.

    Take into account that people with longer limbs would be at a disadvantage when compared to people with shorter arms. It's not always about strength...sometimes, it's genetics.

    On and off again I've thought about buying one of those weight vests. Y'know, the ones that you can add weights into em. I don't really need it right now since I've got a flak vest (LOL), but once I get home I'll have to give that up ... so what do you think? Does the backpack have a strong enough effect on your workouts to recommend me either doing the same or getting a weight vest?

    you got stronger cause you took time off i suppose...

    but i mean, they are push ups....you could have eaten a good meal that day....or you might have gotten a good nights sleep.....hell, you couldve taken a massive shit and been able to add a few extra push ups.

    It depends on your form.

    if your fully going as low as you can go and extending up with your elbows bent a little then thats pretty good.

    those guys who do 50 pushups or 100 do those little baby pushups using momentum which is wack lol I seen some fat fucker doing 50 pushups but the was bouncing and wasnt even going halfway up lol.

    I do slow push ups slow when I push my chest to the ground and fast when I shoot up.

    I do 5 sets of 20

    My max is 40 and not those little baby ones lol

    I do push up varieties they work my chest more then the bench press cant really do bench press cause of a shoulder injury from a while back..
