No. You need 1 gram per pound of muscle. The best way is to get a bodyfat scale or get it measures. Then calculate the weight of your skeleton as well as organs. It'll end up being like less than half of your bodyweight.

lol hell no not for a girl, especially someone not trying to gain weight.

the amount of protein you intake daily should be anywhere from 15-30% of your total caloric intake depending on your goals and fitness level, age, body type, metabolic rate. when you decide how much you want then multiply that percentage by daily total caloric intake.

    for example:

140 pounds, your caloric intake is what, 1500? lets say you want protein to make up 20% of you caloric intake. 1500 x .20 = 300 calorories from protein.

    1 gram of protein = 4 calories

divide protein calories by 4 so 300/4 = 75 grams of protein per day

    Do you lift weights?

I'd say 90-120 grams a day, depending on what kind of workouts you do.

Women need protein too, especially those who lift.

I'd be taking in at least a 100 grams of protein a day.

i would just eat plenty of protein(140 g), unlike carbs and fat, protein does not have a storage place in the body. Basically, the amount of protein you eat does not determine how much weight you will gain. Infact, a diet higher in protein is probably the easiest way to lose fat. Protein should make up the majority of your diet, and then the rest of your diet should be composed of healthy fats, fruits, and vegetables. But, honestly i dont even count protein and carbs anymore because if the majority of my meal consists of protein then i know im eating fine. Most people look to diet as the problem, but exercise is usually the problem 70% of the time.

Heres how i approach losing body fat...

    Eat protein with every meal...

Eat atleast 5-6 times a day

    Sprinting

    or

    Walking briskly for an hour

lift weights to preserve lean mass...

when you combine all these things you lose weight

Seriously, just dont starve yourself...exercising really does work

Sweet. That's what I do. Except for the 140grams, I get about 75-85 a day.

100's a little much for a girl at 5 4 140. the extra protein will just turn to fat

If she's lifting 3 times a week(and lifting decent weight) then 100g is not too much. If you visit any weightlifting forums for women, they're all taking in at least a gram per lb of bodyweight.

i disagree with a pound per body weight.

if your trying to be a body builder and pack on muscle, more protein is crucial

she said shes not trying to put on muscle, so i would say 15-25% of her daily caloric intake would be more than enough
