This explains how an oil rich African country like Equatorial Guinea can still remain dirt poor.
If it's not money made from blood diamond, it's made from oil; of course, always at the expense of the majority of it's population to keep the few bathing in money.
edit; don't know if you saw it in C&a, but this past summer, the dictator's son had his cars seized in Paris due to corruption probes.
I've heard that much of this happens because many of these African countries discovered oil before they became democratic. Had they been democratic first then maybe that would have shaped how they handled their oil. Equatorial Guinea was already long under the rule of this dictator family when they discovered oil in 1995. So it shouldn't be a big surprised at the mess there. Ghana recently discovered oil but it was after their democratic reforms. Maybe those reforms coming before discovering oil will cause Ghana to handle their oil better.
Oh yeah, I hope Eve dumped that fool after she found out his full story.
Democratic reforms won't necessarily grant switching privatization of oil companies into the hands of masses though.
I'm kind of surprised she even dated a man of his fishy background.
A profile of some of Africa's current dictators and those trying to fight them.
