    Hi,

I am planing on getting a condensor really soon but right now I have a 40 dollar Radioshack mic. Its hooked up to a AM150 stereo Mixer. " Basically a DJ mixer " . That DJ mixer is hooked up to my Sound blaster Audigy X gamer 5.1.

My room is really quite. The only thing u can hear in my room is my cpu fan on my coomputer.. But its not that loud at all.. Its like if u were to in hale then exhail gently .. thatll be the sound of my CPU found.. " Which is under my desk" so it blocks alot of the sound getting from to the mic.. HOWEVER..

I got a dynamic right now and when I record I get like a backround noise and only way to clean is is to use the Nosie gate in Cooledit.. problem is when I use that, It changes my vocals A tad tad bit when I talk.. I notice the diffence..

Heres a sample of what I sound like when I record before I edit.

" PLEASE: Only those who have broadband listen" I need people who can listen to Hi mode."
    -----------------------------------

Do u think that backround noise is just because My mic is hooked up to a crappy DJ mixer?

    Or is it my mic?

Or does it sound like a CPU fan? " because to me it doesnt:

    _----------------

And can If I was to buy a Noise gate " hardware" would it clear that up for me with out taking away from my vocals?

If you can help I would apprecaite it.

    Peace

i use to record at a different location and it had that same sound (i believe all mics make that fuckin noise, or actually the ambiance of gathered sounds). ANd noise reduction cut that bull shit out.

odd...id say it was your soundcard..but you shouldnt be getting that much noise from any soundcard worth more than $50.....

    might just be the mixer....

if the cable isnt very high quality, you could be getting some noise from it. ummmm, it could be from the mixer. i would guess the mixer...and when you get a condenser it will be more sensitive than the dynamic, so you better hope it aint ya CPU fan, cuz its only gonna get louder. If you get a condenser and a good preamp, i think the background noise will go away.

ALL mics make the backround noise, you have to do noise reduction to get rid of it...

    yes....but not THAT much...lol...

    specially condensor...

and theres no way in hell your dynamic is pickin up the cpu fan....its def either the mic or mixer....

why u got your dynamic into a mixer?

plug it straight into the computer...and see if the problem persists

    ;)

the only one that thought of THAT!..why i dunno....

    lol

yea just record your mic....take that background sound and select it and create a noise reduction profile from it so you can get rid of it everytime and yea you might wanna plug str8 into the comp

My mic still in my mixer but.. I believe what it was that.. I have a nob on my mixer for mic volume and it was half way.. which was causing it.. so what I did is turned the nob so the mic vol would be down and turn the mic volume on the recording of my soundcard down too and it worked .

    :)

    I got a radioshack mic
