Finally got this working. Saw a post about it a few weeks ago from Favian. Personally im a cheap ass no cheater, so i had a non-modded console and no codebreaker/ARmax. And i had almost given up on getting this to work. But yesterday i started up the search again and came across a thread which basically allowed me to create my own Swap Disc. Basically i ripped the image for Ratchet Deadlocked. Used a program to change its network.ELF (PS2 .exe equivalent) to a ulaunch.ELF, burned that, swapped it and ran it which allowed me to upload FreeMCBoot onto my Memory Card and after a little practice with a homemade slide card to manually open up the tray i was in business.

Of course most of the places didnt even mention the fact that to play burnt games i would have to patch the .iso files with another program ESRdiscPatcher so that the homebrew program would launch it. So 2 wasted dvds and 1 wasted cd and i should be in good health. Might hook up a hard drive and just upload all the games but for now ive just burned off SnesStation and am playing some old Snes games that were too frustrating to play with the keyboard on emulators. Of course that was a pain too as it was formated to a cd iso instead of a dvd iso, but another couple freeware programs and its working now too.

Now its just time to get my torrent on...

i also saw the favian post and started from there.
i just bought a copy of Swapmagic online to get Free McBoot installed, figured it was worth it.

i'm able to burn playable ps2 games now, no USB yet though.

the ESR patcher issue held me up as well (I also wasted 2 DVDs). There doesn't seem to be a good guide that covers everything from start to finish (that i was able to find), so i had to piece everything together from about 8 different sources/threads.

Here's a good forum for getting PS2 ISOs. They also do requests if what you want isn't there. This thread has a list of every game they have available. You'll have to register to view it, you should.
    Emuparadise.org Forums

for my SNES games those can just run off the flash drive, no burning needed. that was less of a hassle than getting the ps2 stuff straight.

i don't know how to do it without having to buy some kind of software. or borrowing the disc form someone. and it has to be the original big ps2, no slim. i'll probably do a guide or something eventually. the page where i learned how to install free mcboot is down right now.

Used this for creating my swap disc

Free MC Boot Help Needed - PSX/PS2/PS3 Scene Newz

    FIRST

    1. Make a .iso image of 007 Agent Under Fire using dvd decrypter or imgburn.

    SECOND

    1. using "Apache v1.1" open the .iso image u made.

    2. highlight "DRIVING.ELF" in apache on your right side

    3. select "ISO Tools" from the tab uptop, now select "Change TOC for Selected File", change the "Size (dec)" to 915196, don't change the LBA. (FOR UR INFO, thats the file size of the "uncompressed BOOT.ELF" ulaunchelf file from v4.30 pack you will rename to DRIVING.ELF, aka, "uncompressed BOOT" rename to "DRIVING")

    4. (for ur info, right click any file on your pc and select properties, the first "Size" is the size in bytes)

    5. with "DRIVING.ELF" still highlighted, select "ISO Tools" again, now select "Update Selected File", select the DRIVING.ELF file that was ulaunchelf's "uncompressed BOOT.ELF" you renamed. (also attached below) it will say "selected file replaced"

SKS Apps - Exploit Systems - Wii Ps3 Ps2 Apps - Homebrew Game Downloads - Forums

Used Mcboot Noobie Package 1.8b, uploaded it onto an mp3 player.

Had some troubles uploading it at first. with a few errors about not locating the boot files. Just got to make sure its FAT32 instead of FAT. And accidently formatted the wrong Memory card.

    I dont understand?

It may be a different process if you are using a slim ps2.

The whole point of doing a swap is that it thinks there is a ps2 game in the drive. That 3 step process is to make a custom swap disc instead of buying one. I couldnt even find one around here so this made it "simple". If you are pressing reset at any time you are doing it wrong.

With the FreeMCboot on a fat32 formated storage device you connect it to the PS2's USB slot. The ulaunch.elf should bring up a menu that allows you to copy the contents of the FMCB folder onto a memory card.

As far as i can remember what the ulaunch.elf does is give the ps2 USB access to the memory card. Not sure how you would go about copying FreeMCBoot.elf from a dvd that thinks it something else. I would assume that it would launch it. But the whole point of the process was to get FMCB onto the memory card. As the folder you are putting on the storage device is smaller than 8mb it fits onto a memory card.

The screen you are looking for is
    [IMG]
    Choose File Browser
    [IMG]
Choose Mass (99% sure, been awhile)
    Load up FMCB.elf from there
    [IMG]
    Choose Normal Install
    [IMG]

That should be it. Thats what i did.

Finally got around to hooking up a hard drive. Easier than i thought it would be. You simply plug it into the computer, format using WinHiip to PS2 format. Upload unpatched images. Make sure its set to Master when you go to plug it into the PS2 and thats it.

Loads seem faster but what really shows is that gameplay lag is gone. Meaning for instance i was playing NFS Underground through ESR and you would get the slow loading of the enviroment resulting in invisible walls, street, everything. Very annoying when coming around a corner and slamming into a wall you cant see. HDLoader solves this. Its included in the FMCB Noobie package.
