I stand by my opinion of fuck a vst #Reasonuser lol honestly how many really unique vsts are there in 2011? All I see are a bunch of workstations, samplers, drum machines, a bunch of synths that emulate old synths and some that just emulate old ways of making music. Ain't too much new happening thats why people still use a synth like hypersonic that got discontinued in 2006.

The best apps out there use your CPU and allow you to emulate analog hardware. So as computers advance so does the quality of these apps so while they may not change too much the quality of the sound is better.

Anyone can make great sound with a little know how though. Guys are still making dope music on Tritons and Fantoms that technologically cannot compete with these vsts. Hit records are being made in Reason and the quality sounds great even though Reason has always been known for its low CPU consumption. Fuck a vst

I don't use synths much nowadays but here's a few vst ones I've always liked that haven't already been mentioned

Tone2 Gladiator (probably my fav software synth)
    Zebra 2
    ABL Pro 2/Bassline Pro 2
Z3TA+ (I think a new version came out recently but I haven't yet tried it)
    Albino 3
    Massive
Olga (real original synth that tries to emulate analog, i.e. sounds 'imperfect' but has alot of character. probably not to everyone's taste though)

And check the free TAL Bassline one, can make some dope patches on it and it's good for beginners to synthesis/making sounds from scratch rather than relying on presets. Don't think just cos it's free that it's not as good as others - it's pretty simple but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Plus it's like the size of an mp3 to download (just google it). Other TAL plugins are dope too, both synths and effects like TAL filter/reverb etc. and they're all free

Dont take advice from anyone making wack beats.

    But anyway,

check out the new NI Komplete, only 499$ and more sounds than you can deal with

East West PLAY, if you a beast on the keys and compositions..

And Reason 6, considering its price and the new library, i'd assume this would be ideal.

The new Reason 6 library is great. It brings Reason back to the "I use it for its top notch quality sound bank" forefront which I think many people walked away from a few years ago
