alright let me give you my simple question

I want my surround sound to run everything including cable tv. How do I get the sound to go from my cable box to my surround sound.

My tv has 4 HDMI inputs 1 S-cable input, 2 component cable ports

MY surround sound has 1 HDMI (connected to tv) , 1 S-cable (connected to the PS3), 2 component cable ports

Cable box has the HDMI running already to my tv. and then component cables and also an S-Cable port.

shit got mad confusing to me. As I am writing this im guessing its gonna have to be with the component cables.... but not quiet sure

You can use component, but you won't get true surround unless you are using an optical cable for sound. Your cable box should have optical if its hd. And your reciever should def have the inputs.

So run your rgbs from you cable box to your TV, then run the optical from your cable box to your reciever
