A friend of mine recently posted a pic of a cute bouquet she received from her fiancee.

All fine and dandy ~ after all it's considered to be a "romantic gesture" by many women.

Here's where all went downhill ~ the vast majority of comments she received were along the lines that her fiancee must have done something wrong and is now trying to apologize by sending her flowers.

Is a bouquet not a bouquet anymore? Does it always have to be some strings or ulterior motives attached to it?

Having been a florist for 20 some years, my experience has taught me this:

Only a very small percentage of men purchase a bouquet as an apology. While it's common for them to purchase for special occasions (Valentine's day, Mother's Day, birthdays etc.), a very large number often buy 'just because', which is where the romantic or special notion comes in.

More special, is when the guy actually finds out what his girl's favorite flower is, instead of assuming and going with the old standby: roses.

My favorite is a lime green Cymbidium orchid. I have never received one, lol

I like anything different, especially if it's green in color.

    Vibernum (in the hydrangea family)

I was speculating kind of the same, really ~ as far as the "reason behind purchasing" flowers was, but was surprised when I saw so many pessimistic outbursts.

Those flowers look absolutely stunning though @MissAndrya...

However, I'd rather see them planted than wilting away in a vase for some odd reason.

The orchid comes in a potted version and lasts for months. The stem cut variety can last as long as well. Unfortunately, the others don't fare well indoors when potted, which is where I like to enjoy them.

I'm getting mentally prepared to fully take on the garden this year ~ and given a bit of thought to doing a flower garden as well, only I fear winters will not be kind to the latter.

Make sure to purchase and plant perennials, they typically come back every year whereas annuals only survive until the first frost.

Vibernum looks like a little diamond or some precious stone. or maybe rock candy.

Green Carnation looks like green cotton balls.

Green Cymbidium looks like a face sticking its tongue out, like a creature from super mario world.
