I still don't get how so many rap fans can say that Biggie wasn't technical or that he didn't have elaborate schemes... that makes me think that the majority of rap fans really do not know what rhyme schemes are... Biggie is idolized for a reason... he was the total package... he had everything that most rappers coveted and/or envied...

I think general consensus is that Big's scheme was above average, and add to that everything else that he had, psht, he is in a lot of people's top 5 doa for a reason.

To me too many people from Big's era are better than him for him to be considered top 5. Just too many peers like Red and Meth, Busta, Nas etc. Hell, I honestly like Treach over Big. Talk about underrated.

Out of all you named, I would only say Nas and Eminem are more elaborate than Biggie... Pun and Rakim are mainly end rhymers... Biggie had shifting, variable schemes with lots of internals... see "Hypnotize" or "All About the Benjamins" for example... his vocabulary wasn't large, but we're talking SCHEMES, not vocab... his shit was elaborate, because he never stuck to ONE scheme. Again, this is proof that you have no idea what schemes really are... multis are no different from one syllable rhyming if the only time you rhyme is at the end of rhymes and that pattern continues throughout the verse.

Treach is definitely underrated by NEW JACKS... or today's rap fans... but when Treach was popular, he was rated where he should've been... like top 5... he had a slew of biters, too... he took fast rap, which was originally popularized by Kane and G Rap, to a new plateau... influencing cats like Eminem, Tech N9ne and Twista... plus, his flow was impeccable.

I love Redman, Method Man, and Busta... I would only say that Nas is better than Biggie, though... Biggie's flow was better than Red's, his content more engaging than Meth's, and his wit and attention to detail sharper than Busta's.... like I said previously, Biggie was the TOTAL PACKAGE... most emcees tend to be specialists, meaning they're only good in one or a couple of areas... Biggie was at least good at everything, which made him great... maybe he wasn't EXCELLENT in that one thing that YOU prefer, but that's a sensibility issue... that's about what you value... and if you value tongue-twisting schemes or constant punchlines or cryptic metaphors above all else, then of course, you'll say he's wack or average... but it's not like he didn't have fairly elaborate schemes, witty punchlines or nice metaphors... his rhymes just weren't dense with it... his lyrical palette was varied and stretched out with everything... the best thing he had was a conversational flow with dramatic inflections that were never forced... and since rap is a VOCAL art, not a literary one... that's something that is really appealing.

first off multis are different from one syllable rhymes being that u are rhyming more then one syllable n matching it in syllable count speaking of that multi biggie hardly ever used multis.

second pun and rakim are not soley end rhymers homie they have other rhyming syllables that are in the bar smh and also biggie did not have complex rhyme schemes in comparison to pun and rakim biggie rhyme schemes are usaually some aaaa or abab. rhyme scheme type shit most rappers do that those are some rhyme schemes and also internals is also something mostly ever rapper does u just proving u don't know what u talking about breh when it comes to this rapping stuff as far as technique goes
