really, really echoy/reverby, but then again, right now im listening to it on shitty comp speakers with a crappy stock soundcard (@ parents house haha...), and i agree that beat needs to be louder (or the vocals lower, same difference), would have probably changed the instrumentation around a bit as well (thats the record producer in me talking haha..), but overall not bad

I love it when people can get this type of quality and mix, from low end equipment, this makes those gear sluts bust a fucking vein.

Arcane I couldn't change the instrument's around, I didn't make the beat. lol
And thanks AON, all you need is some decent equipment and learn how to mix and you'll be good.

Translation, tips? Well one thing I learned from AON was making the signal as clean as possible my setting compressors/EQ's while recording so it comes out clean and you don't have to do much to it. 1 thing I always remember to do is don't overcompress, ruins the hell outta dynamics. If you have good mons, eqing should be a breeze .. If it takes hours to find the perfect EQ .. lol by all means sit there for hours and try to get the perfect sound ... Also get some decent equipment and you can get a good sound.

    Thanks for all the replies.

how do you know if you're overcompressing

i also use the roland mmp2 and i set it with 4:1 compression and for eq i boost the hi's boost the mid's a lil and cut below 60 on the lows

can you gimme some tips on how to use the roland to the fullest

my quality is nowhere near as good as yours lol your mixing is amazing

Thanks Kaotic. Do you have good mons? Mic? Soundcard?

When I set the compressor on the mmp-2, I never use over 2:1 and I always use a soft knee not hard. Threshold varies, have to set that on your own, don't set it too low though .. anywhere below -20 db is too low. It's simple if ya voice is comin out too bassy, then do a drop off around 80hz, on the mmp-2 I don't mess with the mids or hi's because my mix already comes out clean with the cut off ... so later with my plug-ins on CEP i'll tweak the EQ a bit to my liking. I like adding big reverbs, that's just my personal thing, I think it helps the vocals sound fuller and gives it that "studio" sound .. I hate dryness ... but that's just me ..

    yeah i have good mons mic and soundcard...wharefedale 8.2's, shure ksm32, emu1212m

i'm gonna try the soft knee i've been using the hard one i think i might do the eq in cep from now on because it gives you more control then if you do it before you record. i do a drop off at 60 and i usually like to add reverb too. i guess the main thing i gotta figure out is compression.

Yes, I just listened to "How Come" on your page. Vocals do sound overcompressed, which can cause the vocals to sound hissy.
