The thing about both songs is that they both reflect the R&B sounds of different parts of the 80's. The SOS Band song came out in the early 80's so it had a more instrumental less synthesized sound still similar to 70's R&B. That Cherelle song came out in the late 80's and it had more of a New Jack Swing/Hip Hop influenced sound that was becoming popular with R&B at that time and on into the 90's. I think both songs still sound fresh.
