God said that he would reward Job's faithfulness. That test was to prove Satan a liar really

Well God brought up the fact that Job was an upright man and satan said he hasnt put enough pressure on him to really know that. So God let satan pressure him.

i wonder what it means to seek him openly

i feel like i've done just that and come up short. unless you mean to seek him is to accept the christian version of him prior to any revelation that this is the right path, and after a while of being a 'good christian' he will confirm that you made the right choice.

if that's the case i'd consider it a self fulfilling prophecy. you have to commit to the idea of it being true prior to being convinced that it is true. something about that doesn't make sense to me.

Seek him openly means to seek him with an open mind, imo..Some people seek him but are not willing to step outside of what they want and thus can't truly find him.

do you think my mind is simply opposed to the idea of god and as such i can't find him?

Are you personally asking me that question? if so, then it's possible. I don't know you well enough to answer that. If not, is that the reason?

well just based on the rhetoric that 'anyone who seeks him with an open mind will find him'

i can deduce that this means i'm not seeking him with an open mind

which in all honesty is very likely the case, but i would argue that those who find him also didn't seek him with an open mind

rather they had an inclination to believe while i had an inclination not to believe

so it really boils down to opinion/personality rather than open mindedness.

How do you know those without the open mind really found him?

i don't, it's just my opinion. people generally are opinionated when it comes to just about everything, rarely do we ever look at anything with a completely 'open mind,' but even less so when it comes to big things like the existence of god. most people are trained from an early age to believe in god. maybe they pursue knowledge in an effort to support or explain that belief, but in my experience most people arrive at the conclusion first (i.e. there is a god) and then they work their way down to all of the reasoning behind it (i.e. here's why there is a god).

but those people who at least try to find ways to support their belief should be open minded enough to realize that if they find something that isn't supported by their belief to understand and perhaps change. You are right with the believes in God first, i tend to think that way but i do explore other possibilities which why i like this forum

so do i, but thats why i think its not really accurate or fair to say that anyone who seeks him with an open mind shall find him. i think we're all relatively open minded, though not completely so. we just have different inclinations based on our learning/experience.

I believe that the seeking part is key.....some people believe that seeking entails intense thought or prayer when that isn't the case

Action, going and finding it. If you are seeking gold...you can't just sit home and hope, pray and strong desire it because it's not enough
