there's a lot of reasons why people arent considering him as the first

two of the main reasons being that he wasnt actually born in Mexico, and Ricco Rodriguez technically would be the first Mexican heavyweight champ if that werent the case, even if Ricco is only half Mexican

tony lopez is full mexican descent, he was the king of the cage heavyweight champ for a while also

saul canelo alvarez is a perfect example of a mexican fighter to me

cain velasquez is an american fighter

the whole 1st mexican champ puts meat in the seats though, so whatever

it's mostly the brown pride tattoo.

Cain's the first mexican hw champion the same way Max Baer was the first jewish HW champion.

I like Cain, but all he did was do what Carwin should have done if he wasn't so out of fucking shape. I mean wtf, it was a title fight & you out of shape?

ricco is half, and king of the cage isnt near the level of the ufc lets be honest, most people dont consider small organization champs as much of an accomplishment in the bigger picture, theres many who've had them titles who never made it any farther so they aren't really the best gauge for a talented fighter. regardless.. it's a promotional plug, business standpoint, i think thats obvious to everybody. not to mention it's the fact cain is/can be a role model, he has a good attitude and is marketable.. that and he already had a brown pride tattoo and was open about wanting to be that role model for other mexicans.. so they ran with it.

Ok, i can respect that opinion/reason

but i still wouldnt consider cain as the first mexican heavyweight champ in all of combat sports, just mma

Shane Del Rosario won the WBC world title in Muay Thai kickboxing a while back

Dont think Ive heard anyone call Cain the 1st Mexican Heavyweight ever in all history of combat sports. Dont see how anyone would come to that conclusion unless im missing a press update.
