Anyone have a favorite contemporary poet? And why...

For me, I'd say Campbell McGrath, Kay Ryan, and um... Gary Snyder... McGrath just takes you to weird places with his prosy wandering poems, very descriptive... Ryan's just fucking clever. She's one of the few people who use rhyme at all anymore, and Gary Snyder's just the man... When you want to take a trip off into the wilderness, read some Snyder shit... it won't just take you there, but it'll give you a whole new mindset, all zen-like and shit. Galway Kinnel's really cool too, kinda on a McGrath tip.

Um... the ones I mentioned, then like Billy Collins, Phillip Levine, Sharon Olds, Yusef Kumanyaka (sp?) are good standbys... I really dig what I've read of Virgil Suarez too... and if you could find it, Casey Kwang is really sick, he's pretty young (or, very young by poet standards, in his 20's) and his writing is very real...
