    if youre lean or fat the only way to make gains in muscle mass is to lift for 8-10 reps heavy weights and eat a high protein, high calorie diet

    you can make gains when youre heavier in terms of bodyfat or leaner

    lifting heavy weights is an easier thing to do when you carry more bodyfat

    i find my bench comes down when i slim out

    its preference really, but rippy is right when he says that bulking and cutting ie adding and dropping 30+ lbs on your frame every 3 months is bad for your body....it really is hard on alot of organs and glands

    barring genetic obstacles, eating and lifting heavy weights is the only formula you really need for putting on muscle mass

    I don't know anyone who's bulking and cutting every 3 months. Anyone I talk to is bulking for at least 6 or 7 months, or longer.

    You can gain muscle mass on a heavy weight low rep scheme as well, and most people need to do this to build a foundation. I agree though that 8-10 reps is better for hypertrophy.

    Yeah eating and lifting heavy weights, but here's Rippy's trying to argue against heavy caloric excess when the dude can fly away if a heavy gust comes along. There's not a single freak or huge lifter who doesn't bulk.

    i could be misinformed but i thought like the russians or someone did that type of short term bulk/cut cycle

    i also read 4-6 reps is good for muscle strength while like you said 8-10 is better for muscle development

    anything over 12 is better for toning / conditioning etc

    i used to lift a ton, im a cardio guy with some wieghts and lots of boxing these days

    Maybe the Russians did, maybe they do still, just personally I don't know anyone doing or encouraging 3months bulking followed by 3 months cutting. It's usually a lot of bulking with some cutting during summer months.

    I remember you used to post more in regards to weight training, how's boxing going?

    that whole toning thing is bullshit. russians claim to fame isnt really in their dieting strategies its in their powerlifting and olympic lifting methodology. they know how to be really fuckin strong.

    ive seen the bulking topic argued to death so many times on other sites. i remember some 15 year old kid, whos nuts havent even dropped yet was trying to tell me about bulking and shit lol. wow that was funny.

    i took 2 years of kickboxing and learned a style totally different from traditional western boxing

    everything i know is self taught... but its great exercise and i love making my hands quicker

    i dont see me doing it for like anything other than recreation.... but my hands are heavy as shit now in terms of packing a solid punch

    weights are cool when youre in college and trying to impress hoes but when you get older you realize you dont need the size anymore, im not in competition for sports or body building, and i dont need 18+ inch arms to pull hoes

    but i still get off on a good lift session now and again
