I put one of The Games songs on my computer and saw the waves in CEP and the whole track looked compressed or limited. Do professionals compress the track, or does it just happen to look like that?

I dont compress or limit the whole track because we get our shit mastered and doing it in the mixing stage gives mastering engineers less room to work w/

Of course you compress individual tracks, I'm talking about the WHOLE track, after everything is mixed down. I'ma try limiting and compressing and see which I like better.

i always thought thats how they do it.. compressing the whole track..but the more i think about it... the less rational it sounds... if u compress the whole track.. ur gunna be boosting bass, kicks, snares, vocals, an cutting back some of them... itd fuck up all ur mixing and eq... cuz ud have to have a compressor thatd be able to tell the different between it all an have it so it only boosts an cuts certain ones...etc etc etc i think they jus eq the hell out of it, to the point where, everything is boosted as high as it goes in certain frequencies til its all evened out liek that and full

usually it's not done for technical purposes.

it's done to add a certain "sound" that a particular compressor has.. for example the LA2A sound or a 1176ln sound.. alot of those compressors have sounds that are actually a part of the sought after "industry quality"

So limiting would be bad? I'm not working with industry quality.

cep does has it, but i dont think is necessery compressing your mixdown if you already did the compressing to the tracks.

I always do that, but I was just wondering to see if professionals limited the whole track. Just curious.
